PMR and Purple Rice

I recently spoke with a woman who was singing the praises of Purple Rice in powder form from Thailand. It is meant to be very beneficial for pain and sleeping. I was wondering if anyone has experience with Purple Rice in relation to PMR that they could pass on to the forum.

I came across the article below on inflammation you may find of interest. - John

I'm sure it is beneficial to the shop's profits...

The article isn't bad and most of it makes sense. The claims about coconut oil are OTT - the most recent findings support the old attitude that it isn't good - not the later ones that it is a wonder substance... OK in moderation probably.

I get so fed up with all this yo-yoing - what's good for us one day is incredibly bad the next and it's virtually impossible to accept the "evidence" that's put forward. In years to come we'll probably be reading about the beneficial effects of smoking! I'm a great believer in all things in moderation. And get as much from natural ingredients as possible.

Nah - think the jury got the smoking thing right at last - it WAS promoted as being good for your health originally you know!

I have always been somewhat sceptical about a lot of the dietary nonsense propagated by Ancel Keys and his little friends - mainly because I was a biological scientist and it didn't make sense. Most of the studies are observational - and that applies to the more recent stuff too that tells us bacon causes cancer and that sort of thing - and observational studies are notoriously inaccurate. Most people can't remember what they ate last week, never mind last month, and you cannot be sure they are being absolutely accurate about what they ate.

On the other hand - I will try many things to see what they are like. If they help me, fair enough. But I have a somewhat kneejerk reaction to any sites that try to tell me someone has the miracle cure for any illness you can think of - and I'd say that 99.999999999999% of the time, I'm right. I won't claim to be infallible :-)

Red wine and chocolate are good for you doesn't matter what the Daily Express says!

I agree - anyway, you must never underestimate the boost you get from pure enjoyment!

But the DM says so - so it MUST be true...

If this is the genetically engineered variety I wouldn't go near it. There are traditional forms of black and red rice containing anthocyanins so stick with them. Plus our traditional sources seem to be purple fruits and vegetables, much more tasty!
