Does anyone have any exercise suggestions. I have had PMR for 9 months. OFF of pred for 3 months. Pain currently a 4. Thankyou.
Gentle exercise will help your well-being, but as I think we said in response to your earlier post, it will not do anything to reduce the PMR pain. In fact, if too vigorous it may do more harm than good.
Hi katakwon, should you really be off pred if you are getting pain? For exercise I go swimming, because I like swimming, but I believe weight bearing exercise is supposed to be better, like walking. I find Tai Chi is good too.
Agree with DL, gentle exercise is good. Walking is good provided you don't overdo it. I've found a resistance band is good for chair exercises indoors (or outdoors if you want). Gently strengthens muscles and very beneficial.
During the 5 years I had PMR without being on pred the only thing that kept me mobile and upright was an aquafit every morning in a warm pool which then meant I could manage Pilates once or twice a week and Iyengha yoga once a week. Without the aquafit I couldn't have done the other.
I find Pilates hugely beneficial for stretching my overnight muscles & strengthening. Swimming followed by a sauna I also find energising, good luck x
Four years ago I gave up Scuba diving as a result of PMR. Other than the excellent+ advice given by PMRpro and other members of the PMR column,I have kept up my swimming. There is no weight to consider, its rhythmic stroke and breathing -excellent for the lungs and circulation is all very beneficial to the Body and mind. It's been a saver to me but advice if I may, take it easy ,only do what you feel like at the time. John . PS. channel swimming is not recommended - too COLD!!
