It's the pain in the butt again. Trying to figure what this new feeling could be GCA or PMR ?

Hi, another question since the yesterday my scalp isn't as tender today or my jaw, but fatigue and muscle weakness and stiffness is unreal. It is not like what I get from my fibromyalgia. It feels like I did a triathelthon. Is that more commone with PMR or CGA or both?

Hi,

Can be either, and of course bringing Pred into the equation as well doesn't help, as I said in previous post that can makes your muscles weaker, so when you do anything they take longer to recover.

So to reiterate my reply to yesterday's post, you need to take life in general much more slowly, and whereas in the past you could multitask - see bunnymom's post - and do the washing, cleaning and shopping in a morning without thinking about it, now you have to think and do them on different days! It takes some adjusting to, especially early on when you are coming to terms with the illness anyway.

But, good news is, it does get better, but in the meantime you have to do your bit as well by being careful what you do - don't just rely on the tablets to do their job - it's a partnership!

Take care.

Even on pred in PMR your muscles remain unable to tolerate acute exercise - and that means even at a level WAAAAYYYYY below what you are used to. The autoimmune disorder is attacking your body and it doesn't heal as it normally dose - you have to help it.

Pacing is essential, appropriate resting included, as is knowing your limits and sticking to them. If you don't, you will feel as if you have run a marathon without training.

Sadly auto immune diseases in general seem to create this extreme fatigue, it is real bummer when you have been used to being active and find that suddenly you really do not feel up to doing the most simple things.

Ok thanks so much, I guess just go with the flow and listen to my body. I hope they can determine which this is and not take years like it did for fibro.

I only know about PMR and the extreme fatigue and muscle weakness is for me a problem and I do find if I do what was once ordinary day , racing around refusing to admit I was tired because I could do what ever it was whether I was tired or not . I pay the price ! I do have other issues but GCA is not one so I can't speak for that . However if you try to do too much you will get tired and painful . The ironing can wait a day and even though I am saying this I am suffering the after effects today of not taking my own advice .It happens....... You live and learn ....... Pace yourself .You don't have to give up, just slow down sometimes .

Over my 2 plus years dealing with PMR, fatigue has plagued me from time to time to varying degrees (sometimes totally debilitating), and for varying lengths of time (a day or two, or weeks).

I now know to expect a period of fatigue at some point with any reduction in prednisone.

A recent change in environmental conditions, from a very dry climate to one of very high humidity pretty much knocked me flat after the noon hour for at least 3 weeks!

Then, there are what I call my "sluggish, steroid brain" days following a day of doing too much.

Fortunately, I'm retired and have a very understanding husband, so I can roll with the punches PMR delivers.
