Pred has 82 listed side effects - no-one gets them all, some get very few. As for methotrexate, you won't know how it will affect you until you try - nor whether it will do any good. If after a few months you haven't been able to reduce (since I assume that is why your doctor wants you to use it) or if you feel ill using it don't be afraid to tell the doctor. The more recent recommendations don't recommend it.

Many of us find the reduction steps some doctors use are simply too big. From 15mg a 1mg reduction is more successful - a reductions should never be more than 10% of the current dose you are on. That means never more than 1.5mg, 1mg by a 10mg dose. Trying that is just as successful as using methotrexate - and it has no side effects.

This might be moderated, but if you google pmr and gca northeast and then send an email marked reduction plans - two will be sent to you to look at and try.
