Simple video about PMR for medical students

This is a short video made for medical students about PMR. It is a good overview of the basics doctors SHOULD know. Often it is all they DO know, which is why they don't know much about how all cases are different and the regime the video suggests of being off steroids within 2 years isn't right for everyone. It is not very detailed but is a useful visual overview

Interesting, my biggest fear is getting GCA and now that I'm on hydrocortisone , what would I do if I suspect I'm getting it ?

I know cross that bridge when I get to it

Go to the doctor, if necessary go to the ED/A&E

Thanks for this - simple to follow if we’d disagree with some of the statements. Bookmarked! 🌺

They reinforced the1-2 year duration of the disease again. Not many of us recover that quickly but doctors usually expect us to. Disappointing.

I know - and yet there is so much in the medical literature warning them that a lot of people take longer, that the management with pred should be tailored to the individual and there is no one size fits all (Bhaskar said it again yesterday). But the newer work that backs up what patients have tried to tell them for years is just ignored in their desperation for a fancy cure. It would do them well to pay more attention to what they have in the meantime - PMR can be managed so much better with fewer flares and fewer adverse effects.

Interesting that Carpel tunnel syndrome was mentioned as one of the symptoms in the PMR diagnosis. I've been off Pred. since Nov. 30th 2019 after 3 years of PMR, but developed Carpel Tunnel in early October 2019 when I reduced down from about 2mg to1.5 mg Pred. I've still got it but, as the outpatients clinics aren't functioning, I am still waiting for a nerve conduction test whenever, maybe July/August . It would be interesting to know how many people have Carpel Tunnel when diagnosed with PMR or get it when reducing their Pred. doses.

I think it is quite common as a prelude to PMR - and there have been quite a few who developed it on the way down the pred dose.

Interesting. I had carpel tunnel about six years ago. Now I have Dupuytren's contracture.
