Provided you have told the medical staff that you are on pred - and especially the anaesthetist - there is nothing to worry about. Their job is to keep an eye on it all and although in the past there were concerns about patients on pred and extra pred was given, it is now felt that the best procedure is to monitor the patient, watching for symptoms suggesting problems. If there are problems they will deal with them - but most of the time there are none and the patient has got through without extra pred. Just make sure EVERYONE knows you are on pred - and have acknowledged it in writing.

I had a knee arthroscopy last year with a GA and had no problems at all. I was on 5mg at the time and I didn't need to raise the dose, although I had been told I could if I wanted to.

As PMRpro says, make sure that everyone knows that you are taking Pred and what dose you are on.

I fell and broke my hip a year ago, I was on 20mg Preds after a recent flare, no problems as long as everyone knows you are on steroids. The medical staff are very capable of coping with it. Good luck with the operation.

I had my gallbladder removed last week. They did give me extra Pred thru the IV for the surgery. Next day went back to regular dose of 15mg. No problems with surgery or Pred. No need to worry as long as everyone is aware of your condition and Pred usage. Good luck.
