One of my simple pleasures is (was) to relax with a good book, not any more all i can manage now are a few pages before my tired eyes start to close and i have to put book down. I just wonder if others have this problem? A least with weather improving i can get outside to do A BIT of gardening, The simple things in life.Best wishes to one&all. Dave
side effects Pmr or Pred.: One of my simple... - PMRGCAuk
side effects Pmr or Pred.
You don't say what dose you are on - but my granddaughter is on high dose pred for severe asthma and her teachers have been warned not to shout at her when she goes to sleep in class! She staggers off to school and staggers home - and crawls into bed. She's 14.
Pred can cause mania - and it can cause tiredness. It all depends and everyone is different. Actually, I used to drop off to sleep with PMR in the years I had it before pred - so PMR can do it too. I don't think I've ever felt sleepy during the day since being on pred but a lot of people find they need to programme in a rest/sleep in the afternoon in order to have a longer more productive day. If you snooze for 2 hours you may get 3 or 4 hours extra overall. All autoimmune illnesses tend to be associated with fatigue but that is defined as tiredness that isn't improved by sleep.
Just don't overdo it on the gardening front!
I got it both ways, DaveD. On higher doses I was euphoric and swinging from the lampshade, on lower doses I couldn't stay awake. I'm nicely settled now but I still have to be careful with the pottering around outside (I can't call it gardening) but I still find I can overdo it - so easy to get carried away and not realise how the time goes flying past.
LO PMRpro.& thanks for taking time to reply,I am on 12.5mg i am trying for 10mg with the reduction plan rec by you.I also have a underactive thyroid, it may be a double whamy? I am not the best of sleepers, i have to give myself a good kick up the botty to get myself going, but once up & running i find it hard to stop, hence a big prob with pmr, re. your granddaughter it must be realy hard for her in a manic school environment Please forgive me but as fellow sufferer i had a little smile when i pictured the poor mite.Once again thank you.I am struggling now to keep eyes open. Hey Ho. Dave
She laughs too Dave - she is a very independently minded young woman and when some insensitive idiots in the school commented on her pred related weight gain she was right back at them rather than being hurt. Her current theme song is "you only die once" - which given how close she's been to it a few times is a sensitive point with mum!
If you have an underactive thyroid might your GP allow you to up the dose a tiny bit? A specialists consultant in the northeast of England treats his chronic fatigue patients and similar patients with a bit of extra thyroxine even if the blood tests appear "normal" and find it makes a massive difference. Just a thought, it might be worth discussing it with him.
Mornin PMRpro.just returned from shopping (sains) full of hyper Kids. My Dr thought it was my thyroid causing what he called aches, after blood test up popped Mr pmr.I will keep a eye on thyroid.THANKS for your input. When you spoke of granddaughter i was thinking 7ish, she is realy a young lady growing up in a celeb world, hard enough with out pred, PUTS my problems in perspective.MY regards& thanks.the sun is shining that can mean one thing POTTERING outside. Dave.
