Funny headaches and funny hands.

I have had PMR for 2.5 years. Pred down to 4.5mg. Really beginning to feel a lot better and back to some normality. Lately I have started to get a clamping headache after exertion. Also very stiff hands particularly in the morning. Anyone else had this?

I think this is something to run by your doctor. People with PMR are at an increased risk of developing GCA and headaches are part of it. I'm not saying it is because it isn't a typical description but the stiff hands is a common sign of a flare of PMR (or reacting to pred being withdrawn) so it is possible that there is some inflammation coming back - if it is in the upper chest, affecting arteries around the neck and into the head it could cause these sort of symptoms.

That said, for years on occasions I have had a sensation at the back of my head like a tight band pinching my head when walking in the sun! I know - sounds daft doesn't it? There is nothing to be seen - I've had CTs and MRI scans for other reasons and there is still a brain there!

Thanks, I am seeing the specialist next week and will talk about it then. If I can go with any other information then that should be helpful. Thanks again.

Been thinking about this, RobinH. I'll be interested to hear what your consultant says as I am having a great deal of hand trouble right now, but have never thought of them as being stiff. To me they feel swollen although there is very little swelling to see, but I'm now having trouble holding small items, knitting needles being the latest. The centre of the palms are white but there is distinct red flushing - almost a mottled rash - around it and I notice that my fingertips are very often bright red. Think I will have a look round on the research sites.
