Just wondered if anyone had read the article on Temporal Arteritis yesterday featured in the Daily Mail? I was amazed at the same symptoms that I have been going through, but very pleased to know that the writer has come through it although she is 3 years on.

Yes I read the article, and it was nice to see that that the writer had come through it. I was told at the age of 54 that my GCA/PMR would burn itself out in 2 years, I'm still getting flares after 14 years, so not so lucky.
I often wonder if this disease ever goes away completly, I can only dream
I am continually on Pred. I once got to 1 mg after tapering at 1mg. every 3 months which took a long time, however I then got a flare of GCA/PMR so it was back up to 40mgs, and that's how I have been over the 14 years.
At one time I was on 5mgs for several years, but the flares keep coming. I am having a flare at the moment with GCA/PMR so now on 30mgs. [ for me 30mgs seem to get it under control, but have been on 60 mgs in the past ]
I am use to getting my condition under control after all these years, but I do see a Rheumatologist at least once a year
Unfortunately my Dr. of 30 years retired last year, so had to see a new one yesterday. I told her I was having a flare and that I would need some extra Pred, as taking 6 x 5 mgs. per day they soon go. [ my old Dr. would just give them to me ] however this one said I shouldn't be dosing myself and wouldn't give me anymore, and is refering me back to my Rheumatologist, whom I due to see next month anyway !! I told her this, and said " so if I came to you with a flare of GCA you wouldn't prescribe me extra Pred" she didn't reply. I do have spares, [which is always wise to have] but if I run out then I will go to A&E
Hi everyone. Yes I was very interested to read the article in the Mail. I have been diagnosed with PMR and GCA for just a month and so am only just learning about the illness and welcome any advice. I am currently on 50 mg of Prednisolone daily.
Hello, yes I read the article on the internet after it was mentioned on HealthUnlocked. Exactly the same symptoms as I had 2yrs 4mths ago. It took 5 weeks of agony before I was diagnosed with PMR/GCA. I had also been diagnosed at first with a trapped nerve in the neck! Now on 6mg prednisolone after a flare last August. Unfortunately have gone down with shingles at the moment - lots of pain & complication with medication.
