Have you considered having acapuncture to relieve your sciatica? If you find someone who is qualified, do please consider it. I have been having acapuncture to relieve my PMR and have found relief from my symptoms; not a cure, but I have renewed energy which I haven't had for over a year.

Have a go at anything, what have you got to lose.

Good luck,

HI Senorascully,

My personal experience with chiro has been very positive. I am very lucky that the chiropractors I have dealt with are trained in ART. So they can adjust the spine and work on soft tissue issues. The chiropractor won't be able to cure PMR or fibromyalgia, BUT, by keeping the spine aligned and easing trigger points they can keep you going, and help considerably to reduce your pain. I work full time and do not take many sick days. But I do go to my chiro when things get bad. And when you are in pain, you tense your muscles, which can pull you out of alignment and cause even more pain.

You can work with your chiro...eg if you are apprehensive about neck adjustments, as many people are, then tell the chiro you don't want neck adjustments. Sciatica pain is certainly one area they can help with. There are many exercises that can help in easing sciatica too, and the chiro should be able to give you some.

Typically the first appointment is an assessment. If the chiro feels they can help you, you can expect a course of treatment along these lines: several times a week for a couple of weeks, then once a week for a couple of weeks, then every two weeks for a couple of weeks. Then you just come back when things are 'out of whack' again....or as I like to put it..'I feel like a train wreck'.

It is important that you feel comfortable with the chiro....if not, try another one. Where I live there are lots of good ones to choose from.

Many people also do find relief with accupucture, I don't think it is an 'either/or' between chiro and accupuncture, both treatments have their place, and you simply have to try and see what works best for you.

Good luck and Keep Moving,

Dorothy

I went to a chiropractor before my PMR was diagnosed. It did help a little with the pain and mobility but i did spend several hundred pounds on it. It made me feel I was doing something, and i became able to pick up and put down my coffee mug without it hurting so much. However as soon as I took steroids it was like a magic cure and I do not feel she ever looked at whether there was something deeper going on so I have mixed feelings. Good luck.
