I guess it depends on what you are snacking on and how much. I use a app, so I can keep track of the calories and Percentage of Fats, carbs and protein I am consuming. This morning I had two slices of gluten free raisin bread with a tablespoon of homemade pistachio butter(low salt variety and a good fat). 340 calories, mid morning snack 1/2 cup Greek yogurt with 1/4 cup of fresh blueberries 182 calories, lunch will be a tossed salad with 3oz of cold chicken 200 calories, mid afternoon I'll have some fruit, Dinner don't know yet, but in the end I will have consumed around 1200 cal for the day. I have been sticking to this type of menu since June and have lost 1lb per week. I am 5ft tall and started at 172lbs I am now 152. Check with the Doctor to find out how many calories a day you should have. I make sure I am eating balanced, liver friendly diet. I also keep the sodium around 1500 mgs a day. In the beginning I had to weigh everything and check the nutritional breakdown of each food, but after a while it becomes easy to just know what is good and what is not. I feel so much better. I hope this helps you. Judi :)

Hello karenlesley.

Sorry to say but is it very important that at present you lose weight? I know with myself that if I don't eat much one day I do lose several pounds and and have to say that I do not like it at all these days. My doctor rounded my weight off to 60kgs just 2yrs ago but I am actually a bit less than that.

Do you not find that some days you feel like eating and then others that you don't the same? I do. I've always felt like eating more around that time of the woman's cycle and then it tapers off towards the end. I still feel like this even tho' I've been on urso for just 2yrs now.

I also think that with urso at the beginning you might tend to gain a bit of weight but as time goes you might then taper off.

A few days ago I had some sort of tummy bug that lasted 2 days. On the first day I felt I couldn't eat as I was being sick at intervals though I'd nothing ingested to actually be sick from. It was some sort of bug that seems to be doing the rounds. I've not had one of these now in 3yrs but succumbed recently. So for a full day I didn't eat anything but did have a few sips of Coke as years ago when my son had diarrhoea I was informed by a doctor that taking small sips of flat Coke at intervals could help to keep the balance of salts and sugar to prevent dehydration. (I don't normally drink fizzy drinks but that day I thought it might be in my best interests with now having PBC.)

The following day I took it easy with eating, very few small snacks and I was fine but I did manage to drop around 6 pounds in weight (nearly half stone) as for me these days if I don't eat it seems to happen like this.

My concern with now having PBC is that if you are dieting and not eating properly (smaller portions are better than large) then the body is going to start missing out on essential nutrients and we all know that with PBC we are more prone to lacking in Vit D (tho' we need the sun for that really), other fat soluble vitamins.

I think that quality with nutrition is by far better than quantity. If you're not dangerously overweight I'd be inclined to relax a bit and then see how it goes.

Good luck, keep us posted.

Hello again karenlesley.

Well I am only 5 ft 2 inches and weigh about the same as you. Well at present on the scales I am around 8 stones 8 pounds. I've just checked this out, it is around 53kgs apparently. I was slightly heavier back in Dec 2010 when I originally started the urso.

I don't bother these days. I like healthangel have a good frame myself, I'm the classic pear with large hips and a tiny waist.

I would say that you don't actually need to lose weight and I think a lot of others on this site would agree that with now having PBC we are probably that bit better if we try to keep our weight if we are not deemed very overweight or obese.

I find it odd with regards to weight. When I was 16 (I am now 48) I was what was deemed 'a chubby girl' but within a few years of leaving school I naturally lost the bit of excess weight. I might have looked well built but as far as clothes sizes go I have never been more than average.

My late first husband started being sick in 1989 the year after our 2nd child was born and with the worry and having a relatively new baby, I just lost weight and within 6 months I was just over 8 stones and looked quite dreadful as my cheeks had started to sink. I also at the time lost my periods of which it was explained due to the stress and the strains and weight loss, this was the probable cause.

Now I'm 23yrs older than back then even now with more weight than when I was just over the 8 stone mark with progressing ageing I feel I'm looking skinnier. Unfortunately for a lot of people losing weight, it is the face that loses out somewhat and I think a filled out face in a woman especially gives a more youthful appearance.

A few years ago I did have my height and weight measured (prior to getting into the hospital system and the regular weight checks with PBC), my BMI was showing just on the line between normal and obese and basically I thought it was a joke as I wasn't even 9 stones.

I am also 5ft tall. 58kg is 127lbs For me that is about 10lbs less than my goal weight because I have a large frame. Since eating smaller meals is suggested with PBC. Remember to eat slowly. Don't forget to drink 8 glasses of water. Having a glass of water with lemon is healthy and good for you. You might put the amount of food on a plate that you always ate(nutritionally balanced) and save half. Instead of thinking about what to have as a snack, just finish what you saved or have an apple or celery with some peanut butter. Eat as often as you need to in order to feel energized, just keep it the portions small. balanced and healthy. Your body will be burning calories by continually working to digest food. I might add that I also cut out drinking sugary sodas( empty calories). Good luck.

On another note, I find with myself with having the itch at just night-time (after 6 nights free of it, the last 2it has come back!), with moving about during the night when in fact sleep would be more preferential it has to be said that calories are probably being used upat the time also. I know I always wake of a morning and feel very hungry.
