No, have you heard of adverse effects with PBC

Is that a specific kind of nail polish? I have only heard that nail polish in general may be a contributing factor in getting PBC but not specific brands. Mel x

Hi louf

If you google PBC & Nail varnish it brings up various sites about there being some possible risk factors. Researchers suspect that octynoic acid which is found in hair dye, nail polish and other cosmetics could cause PBC.

I've been having my nails done with Gelish, which is similar to Shellac, for years and haven't had any problems. The hospital know this and have never said anything about it. I'd be lost without my posh nails lol

Thanks guys, thanks Rachel. I remembering reading months back about nail polish and hair dye being possible contributing factors but evidence was faint to say the least. There I was happily the other day getting my shellac for the first time since diagnosis and she mentions the acetone being the only way for removal and I think toxin oh no....and I remembered what I had previously read. Anyway, you have to live when you alive huh?.

Found that interesting had never heard about the possible connection between nail polish and pbc I have rarely used nail polish in my life( am 42 now) so dont think had anything to do with me acquiring pbc! However my daughter is always painting her nails and funnily enough the smell of the polish makes me nauseous and very fw smells do that to me!
