Are you a 'spoonie'?
health.clevelandclinic.org/...
I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with this. I learned about it several years ago, early in my diagnosis of PBC.
So many of us feel like we have to do it all, clean it all, cook it all, be the nurse, the mom, the wife, the colleague, the friend... and never say "no" to any request for helping others.
This is a prime example of what self care is NOT - we never put ourselves first and know we are important enough to do that. We have to do it all.
We can't change the fact that we all have a chronic illness that manifests itself often by that indescribable fatigue. We are often forced to make changes in our daily life to accommodate this when it happens. Thus... the Spoon Theory. We can make choices about what we want to 'spend our spoons' on.
I hope you all take the time to read this theory that says what it's like in reality for us.
I would love to get some comments from you about how this may be helpful to you. Have you heard about it before? Do you use it in how to spend your days? How many 'spoons' do you feel that you have in a day?
