Hi I have been given Oxcarbazapine for Trigeminal Neuralgia, it is a med for epileptics, wondering if anyone here has TN? Just feel it can't be doing my liver any good, but cannot do without it, any advice gratefully received. Stay Well.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK5... family member takes it daily for Multiple sclerosis, for the past 6 months. She does her bloodwork regularly. From reading the article, if you monitor and there is no significant injury to the liver, you can keep taking it. When you stop for a while, liver is capable of repairing itself. The key thing is to get tested on regular bases, monitor, and it could be OK. Best is to consult with your doctor.

Good luck!

Hi Jaycee I cannot add anything wisdom wise to what iagra has posted but I do know TN is very painful and I am sorry that you have this on top of the PBC. A friend with this condition used warm pads, I am not sure where she got them from but I just typed in hot cold therapy pads on Amazon and found a page or two. I think she was also deficient in some of the B vitamins (sadly I am no longer able to ask her as she was an older friend now passed).

Sometimes for the sake of quality of life we have to make decisions about medication and again as @iagra has suggested get tested on a regular basis and check with the consultant.

best wishes

Hi butterflyEi, Thankyou for your reply, I will have a look for the heat pads, I'm willing to try anything, but they say this TN is incurable so looks I'm stuck with it, but, onwards and upwards. Stay Well.

Hi Joyce, I’ve had TN for over a year now and have been on gabapentin 4x a day. My Hep Dr said that’s fine. Just before starting that I ended up in emergency on morphine (pain was so bad I couldn’t even see). So really no choice for me. This thing seems to last forever- was hoping to be off meds for this by now. Don’t let yourself get to that point. Take care

Hello Linda, thankyou for your reply, I'm afraid to say that TN is incurable, even the surgeries for it don't seem to work, I tried the Gabapentin but couldn't tolerate it, or the Amytryptline, so it's only the Oxcarbazapine, so it seems we are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea ,because no matter what it is doing to me , I cannot do with out it, as you say the pain is horrendous and you never know when it is going to strike, it's the anxiety that goes with it, but it's nice to know someone understands, so Thankyou, Keep Well,
