I am guessing we are no more likely to catch it, but if we do, we could have more issues than someone who does not have a compromised immune system.

Thanks for the info. I realize we can get it just like anyone else. I’m referring if we get could it be worse ? Thank you ☺️

The question is kind of vague. Yes, we ALL can get it. That being said, are we more susceptible than anyone else in catching it? My doctor says no. If we do catch it, will it be harder on us than others? Possibly. It depends on what stage of PBC you are in, and also if you have other autoimmune diseases that compromise your health. If you take any immunosuppressive drugs too, these play a part as well.

The American Liver Foundation says yes; my gastroenterologist says no. I would rather err on the side of caution and think that we are more vulnerable than people without PBC.

My hepatologist said follow CDC guidelines closely and stay out of crowds. Said no further instructions at this time. I’m very cautious. But everyone has to be, even those with strong immune systems. 😊

I like my retired internist’s advice: Stay home! There are lots of things one can do at home, in and outside, that are fun and relatively safe from infection: reading, writing, planning and preparing food, doing any of the myriad of things that one needs to do but just hasn’t got to, and walking outside, seeding, planting, pruning. Best.

If you have had a transplant and on immunosuppressants drugs then you are classified as very high risk in the UK.

Hi there

Yesterday’s government guidelines said anyone with a liver disease is in the high risk group and should isolate for 12 weeks. Weather I will go that far I don’t know but will be extra cautious xx

I thought the other way around. That’s why we have an autoimmune disease is because our system is in the wrong mode and not attacking bad/foreign germs that enter our bodies. Instead, it attacked the good. It is acting opposite of what it is designed to do.

I'm a RN with PBC. With my overactive immune system, I tend to agree with those experts who say we're no more likely to GET Corona than those with healthy immune systems. That said, our immune systems can behave unpredictably and create harm to us. I've noticed when I get sick it often causes a flare of other symptoms. So my thought is we definitely should be extra careful and consider ourselves at a higher risk.
