I was bitten by a tick earlier this week and my doctor hasn't prescribed an antibiotic to try to proactively fight off an infection. I was wondering if anyone else has dealt with a tick bite and/or Lyme and how they were treated.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

I was also bitten by a tick couple months ago. I did not have any symptoms so she didn't prescribe any medicine as well.. she told me to keep the tick frozen for a month which I brought with me in case I get flu like symptoms, fever , chill like that
Thanks. With it being flu season now and with so many symptoms similar to my PBC issues, I am worried I won't know the difference. I have two friends who were diagnosed late with 2nd & 3rd stage Chronic Lyme. My doctors are divided on taking medicine and I do not want to add this on top of PBC. So Conflicted!
Thanks. In all the literature they say rash or flu-like symptoms are common, but not always present. It's the fear that I could be infected & not know until it's too late that is causing me to have anxiety. I have been given the antibiotic to combat infection, but it causes gut issues....
I know that anxiety does not help us and I am not a great believer in taking antibiotics unless truly necessary however if you do decide to take the antibiotic I wonder if taking natural probiotics such as active yoghurt, kefir and sauerkraut which may help to keep your gut flora in tact may be efficacious. It seems you have a conundrum perhaps a further word with your doctor and perhaps a further blood test which I know are not definitive but may be a process of elimination for you. Your Mayo Clinic has quite a good web site have you looked at their site for information? For reassurance however the best person to help you is your doctor who will know you best.
Yes, thanks, I was told to go heavy with probiotics in order to counteract the loss of healthy gut bacteria. My worry is that Lyme tests are often false negatives this early & it's only when a person has their second or third outbreak & the spirochete are out of control that a confirmed dx is made. I don't want to be there before I take action.
re PBC - or anything for that matter - and Lyme Disease - - - - wow - - - - you didn't say if you actually were dx'd with Lyme Disease - don't know, but wouldn't that be through blood test? And wouldn't that have to be awful soon you should go to be tested? Shouldn't he/she test you first for Lyme - - - - and then - - - - give you the antibiotic? Never did any research on any of this and would be scared to death. I was latched on to by a tick in my early childhood - doctors actually came to the house (I'm 73 now) back then - one came and took a tweezers and pulled him/her out of my leg - had come from a stray dog I brought home. Hurt like the Devil, but Lyme Disease was NEVER mentioned way, way back then. Maybe it wasn't around. I understand if you get it, your entire body is affected and many times for years. Do be careful - don't wait! Kathleen in Ohio, 73 - PBC Stage 1 in 2001; stage 1 in 2011 - lots of autoimmune stuff going on just like all of us!
Thanks. I don't think Lyme was discovered until the last couple of decades & even then very rare. It is at nearly epidemic levels in the rural area that I live and I have a close friend and a family member with chronic debilitating symptoms. To that I say, No Thanks, my PBC & other autoimmune issues are plenty!
