I had it last week. I was scared too and if you search this site you will read a lot of member experiences and I found that all extremely helpful. I found the procedure fairly easy but I was in a great deal of pain for the first 8 hours or so after I got home. I was allowed to take Tylenol which helped. Suggest setting aside a couple of days for recovery if you can to rest. Good luck. It is scary but there is a lot of support here.

I didn't have any pain after my biopsy. I was achey and tired though. More for me was the emotional stress of the whole thing....was really worried about the outcome. It turned out my biopsy came back as fibrosis and not the cirrhosis they thought I had. It might not be as bad as you think. I bet you'll do fine.

Hi there

To be perfectly honest there's nothing to it slight bit of pain but that nothing to us women. Worst part is having to lay down for hours after. Take care now and don't worry fret bout it xx

I agree. Yes a little sore but you have to lie still for ages - tedious!

It's not too bad. I just had another one yesterday but it was taken during an ERCP so I am in some pain, but mostly from the ERCP since the put in a new stint.

hi there I had my biopsy last month. I am not sure where you are based but I live in UK. I arrived at hospital and got set up on the blood pressure machine etc. I didnt have sedation, just local anaesthetic for the proceedure. I didnt feel any pain at all when it was being done but had to bend myself into some odd shapes to help the surgeon get the right spot. afterwards i had shoulder pain which apparently is not uncommon with liver issues but that faded after a few hours. i didnt need to take any pain killers after either....just milked all the attention from my husband waiting on me all evening whilst I chilled out under a blanket. hope this helps.

I think it's the not knowing what to expect that's scary. Like Zoesteve I'm in the UK and had a similar experience of a biopsy, just a bit uncomfortable for a few moments and it left me with a pain in the neck (which is quite common as the nerve from the liver area apparently travels up through the neck!). Just had to rest on the hospital bed for about 3 hours but as I'd been warned about this I took a book to read! Just a couple of paracetamol that night for the neck pain and took it easy for a couple of days.

I just had my biopsy but the Dr had to do it 3 times before he can penetrate through my muscles to get to my liver. It Is done now just feeling little dizzy and shoulder pain. I still need more prayers. And hopefully the pain will go soon within 1 to 2hrs .
