From pain during the night? Last night I was unable to get comfortable to sleep, just felt achy all over, and my liver was aching horribly. Any suggestions?

I do take tramadol which helps with the achy but I tend to wake up in the night with pain, I normally have a actimal or milk to settle my tummy back down.

Dear jennycville Sorry to hear your news. I think most of those with PBC have this problem I know I do. My sleep pattern isn't good anyway but the ache down my right side and pain is sometimes unbelievable. The aching all over is a problem one never knows what to do with myself. Sorry I can't answer your question. At the moment I'm suffering from a cold my throat is so horrid although it would have been worse without the flu jab.

Take care keep smiling.x

Learning form of mindfulness to help sleep from CD obtained via hospital physio helped me. Been through years of broken sleep when pain killers wore off and tried pillows between knees and under calves to limited success. Downloaded CD to MP3 player to listen to until mastered technique and has really helped me getting back to sleep and my body back into sleeping habit. I have passed to others who say also helped them. A low dose anti-depressant can also help pain at bed time but long term its the mindfulness helped me the most. Only draw back often woke up and MP3 player was stuck to my other halfs back or worse - oops! Shows I definitely fell asleep then.

Hi Jenny

I too suffer from aches and pains and it was worse when I laid on my right side. I bought a mattress topper and swapped sides of the bed with my husband and it helped a little. I take 1 X 10mg amitriptyline and put lavender oil on my pillow, I find this does help me sleep. Pure lavender oil is brilliant and I cannot recommend it enough but only use a couple of drops on your pillow if you r going to try it.

Hope this helps. Tricia x

Hi Jenny, I too used to suffer from pain in shoulders, hips and liver. Started taking 1000mg of Krill oil in the mornings about 3 months ago and, hey presto, all pains are much better and practically non-existent! That's my suggestion. X

I am finding more restful nights and a decrease in pain with Elavil 20 mg at night it is used for many things pain depression anxiety insomnia, I was reluctant at first to start taking it but I was in so much pain and not sleeping I had no other option.

My liver doctor said it is very safe for me to use so I am glad it's not harmful for me and so far seems to help.

Hello,

I'm in the same boat as you, especially with the right side liver area pain, find I cant sleep on it.

Usually staying on the left helps a bit. Sometimes I will do a guided meditation online for encouraging sleep.

If I'm having stomach and liver pain or indigestion, peppermint oil often helps with digestion. X

Hi Gemma,

Sorry to hear that, horrible isnt it.

Yes, peppermint oil eases off low-level indigestion for me, most of the time. Sometimes have chamomile and spearmint tea too.

I've not done one for years, but you could write a food diary, when you are able to eat a bit again.

Hard to know what's stomach discomfort and whats liver-related isnt it.

Either way, I do empathise! Hope it eases off a little soon x

Would appear we all have the same aches and pains. I am currently using Tarvin 10 at night and one low dose gabapanton as well as phenergan. I also currently use an oil that i can't/won't go into online but find it the most effective. Sometimes i think pain meds are just placebos as they are so ineffective. Just knowing i am not alone helps heaps. Thank you every one for sharing as i it has also given me ideas.
