Hello sophie666.

There are apparently various symptons one can encounter with PBC and there can also be other symptons that are something different to PBC. I believe some can be caused as a knock-on to the effects PBC has on the digestive system.

I started back in 2010 with itching and fatigue that led to PBC diagnosis. Fatigue left me long since and I put that down to improved LFTs due to take urso from Dec 2010 but also changing certain things in my life.

The one thing that has bothered me since starting urso was that I become constipated due to taking it. Something I was never pre-urso. Constipation can lead to various other problems over time (ie haemorrhoids) that I do not wish to have so I am attempting to keep this at bay and it's not been too bad in some time.

I think also when you start on urso any other medications that you may take can perhaps have some side-effects.

Sorry I cannot be of more help but it would be interesting to know what your doctor reckons.

Obviously I don't know your age or other health history, but while this could all be due to PBC (sorry, I can't remember your exact diagnosis, although I know I've replied to you before) it is also worth considering other things and having them checked and excluded.

When I was first told about PBC I was ready to blame similar pains on it. I went through several periods of feeling like this between 7 and 20 years ago. I was variously told ibs and 'period pains' but was eventually diagnosed with endometriosis. It was always worse if I was stressed - it started after my husband's death - and much easier when I was on the pill, which I was for much of my married life and then after the 'endo' diagnosis. When things got much worse as I approached menopause (I'd been told to stop the pill) my lovely gynaecologist said it was all down to the endo, and arranged for a mirena coil to be fitted. He also said that throw-away comments of ibs often had other explanations. The mirena worked for me, and since having it I've never had these pains.

Obviously this may not fit for you at all, but I would think about other causes as well as PBC. How's your diet, are you feeling much more stressed since the PBC info, and have you changed things like pill, or other medication, are you new to urso? Daft as it may sound, why not keep a chart and try to note all moods, variables, and other possibles. I'm not saying it isn't PBC, but I think sometimes PBC clouds our judgement, and we can miss other things, by blaming everything on it. Hope you get sorted.

Hi grittyreads I'm 57 and have long since been through menopause so I don't think it is hormonal its something I have never had before but it could be the urso as I've only been on it 3 months it could be stress as I've only just been diagnosed with pbc I go to the doctors tomorrow so I'm going to mention it thanks for your reply its good to talk to others in same situation I have learned more about pbc on this site than in all the time I have seen the doctors xxx

Greetings Sophie,

I experienced something similar as part of my first symptoms of determining that I had PBC. It was like labor pains for me however to the point that I was doubled over at times and found it difficult to sit. I also was constipated though. In the end they determined that I had a bleeding stomach ulcer

Hi crysyk I have had ultra sound and camera down my throat so I don't think I have ulcers as they said I have gastris not bleeding but that's months ago so who knows its a nuisance having all these symptoms I've never been ill before when I went to see the doctor 6 months ago I hadn't been in the surgery for years and didn't know where to go now I'm never away lol x
