Same here, have no idea. I haven't changed any meds or eating habits.

Sorry Chippy46 but I don't know what you could do either.

I know that ALP as it is know is due to liver disease but it could also be higher due to any meds that you have been taking, even simple NSAIDs can cause the ALP to rise, as can steroids and also contraceptive pills.

Interestingly I have also found out that eating a fatty meal with blood type O or B can cause a raise.

What have you been informed with regards to what is going to happen next? Are you going to have repeats in a short period of time to double check. Mine have gone up slightly and then down slightly ever since I was diagnosed with PBC evne tho' they are presently much much better than they originally were in 2010 before I was diagnosed. What is very interesting is the fact that my LFTs, most had started to come down (not overly-much but still...) in the 3mths prior to diagnose and I wasn't even on urso.

ALP is actually a protein found in body tissue so I'm not sure if consuming less protein would have any bearing on it.

I think I'd be inclined to stick with simple food, cut down on fat especially of the animal and perhaps see how you go but with guidance from your medical practioner.

By the way have you got any previous print-outs of your bloods to just have a snoop for yourself to see if the ALP levels are much different from prior to diagnose. I somehow don't think a lab doing the bloods actually compare with previous results like a doctor would and jsut maybe they might be seeing it slightly different but only your doctor would know.

My ALP was higher for the first 3 months AFTER I started Urso, than it had ever been before. I thought it may be due to the fact I had the flu & was on OTC meds for 3 weeks. Also, I had eaten a pizza about an hour before the blood test, which is very fatty & will definitely cause triglycerides to elevate. So, when my hepatologist told me that those things had nothing to do with the ALP elevation, I was pretty upset. He said ALP fluctuates like blood pressure does, but from 180 - to 574? The next blood test 3 months later, the ALP was in normal range to 110. So, I still believe the over the counter meds & maybe the pizza also, had affected the 574 ALP, or at least I hope so.

I must have repeat bloods in Jan again.....3 months. I do keep a folder with my lab results....for me to compare. I am O + blood type. One day at a time and one foot in front of another....'bout all we can do. Thanks for replies.
