my husband has pa and requires b12 injections

every three months he is still very tired and unwell 7months later, sleeps much of the time specialist said because the pa was very low it has done damage which he won't recover from, but he won't get worse , get the best advice you can afford what ever it takes

mummytina and William1, where any neurological involvement is concerned, and William1's husband has verification from the specialist that damage has indeed been done, then the British National Formulary in section 9.1.2 states under HYDROXOCOBALAMIN, (which is the form of the vitamin B12 injected in the UK):

"Pernicious anaemia and other macrocytic anaemias with neurological involvement , initially 1mg on alternate days until no further improvement then 1mg every 2 months"

You can access the BNF online, bnf.org just register as directed and you can read this and other info for yourself and print it out to take to your doctor to insist on proper treatment.

It might be advantageous that a complete blood test be run. to check folate and ferritin and other iron assessments. If folate and iron are low then the hydroxocobalamin might not be being methylised in the body to become methylcobalamin which is the form usable by the body.

Member ship of the Pernicious Anaemia Society: pernicious-anaemia-society.org would be very useful to you, they have loads of information plus a helpline open to members.
