i have just been diagnosed with PA, and was just wondering if anyone gives their B12 injections at home? sometimes i feel that going all the way to the gp's and taking up an appointment is a waste of time when (if possible) i could do it at home
can you give B12 injections yourself ... - Pernicious Anaemi...
can you give B12 injections yourself at home?
Hi Lozzie,
Yes you can (I do), you need to learn though, for this you need permission from GP and then the nurses can teach you. It took me some time to convince my GP, helps to stress that it saves NHS money..besides it saving you a lot of time, as these injections are for life.
Kind regards,
Marre.
Hi stuffer from b12 deficiency too losing so much weight n constantly aching n feeling tired, wanna know what else to do other than injections
Yes Lozzie,
We are in the process of arranging this. My teenage daughter was asked if she thought she could self-inject and declined - but has allowed her dad to be trained!! He has now had his training and will give her an injection soon (he has requested the first one to be under the supervision of the nurse). The surgery supplied B12, needles, syringes and needle-box. Will make life a lot easier for the family and our GP is happy for us to self-manage. It seems it is up to your GP as to whether you get given this option - we didn't even have to ask. I hope your GP can be persuaded.

thanks for the help, ive asked the nurse at the GP's and she said it wasnt possible to do it. will try arranging an appointment with my GP instead and see if he is more willing to let me self inject.
Thanks for the help
Lozzie
Hi Lozzie, I'm hoping that you have managed to get something sorted out by now.
I had been self injecting for 28 years whilst living in the outskirts of London,
When i moved to Dorset recently the Practice Nurse was not happy about me self injecting as all their patients had the B12 inj administered by the Nurses.
On their advice I asked my new GP, whom also had never had patient's self inject.
Once he new I had a sharps box and that my partner had also learnt to administer he was fine with the idea.
It saves a lot of time going down to the surgery and waiting for a nurse to give it.
GOOD LUCK you and your dad will be pro's in no time !!!

well ive asked the nurse ive been seeing on my final injection after the first 6 and she said there wasn't a chance i would be able to do it at home, even after explaining that my mum is a nurse herself. just feel like its a waste of time going to the Gp's when i have someone at home who can do it for me or inject myself. (which i would be more than happy to do seen as these are for the rest of my life and im only 22) going to have another go at speaking to the doctor about it. so fingers crossed!
