I know that oral supplements aren’t always the answer but does anyone have any views on Methylcobalamin vs. Cynocobalamin tablets please? They both appear to have pros and cons from the reading I’ve done so far. Thanks.

Oral B12
Hi Pa
I take both as from what I understand the body uses what it can and all natural forms of B12 have a role to play. I am not medically trained, don’t find biology easy so I tend not to overthink it as I can’t cope if I do! You can’t overdose on B12 so my view of my B12 life is to go for it!
There are many in this forum who really understand all the biology and chemistry stuff and I am sure they will share with soon!

Having had experience with both, even with mild B12 deficiency, I would really recommend once-a-month injections.
Regarding oral methyl vs. cyano, from may own experience, methyl is faster acting but kind of saturates in its effect after some time while cyano works slowly but really picks up over time (read 1-2 months). For longer term more permanent benefit, I would really recommend cyanocobalamin tablets.
Please see this study:

To look at the time period it may take for the orals to work, see kuzminski 2002. They used 2000mcg/day cyanocobalamin orals.
Since oral cyanocobalamin takes time to work, a standard strategy is to take some injections in the beginning and then switch to cyanocobalamin for maintenance. There are studies (for e.g. Nyholm 2003) that suggest that such a strategy works fine. BTW, this study used 1000mcg/day oral cyanocobalamin for maintenance.
Good luck!
