Hi All,

I noticed these guidelines had been reviewed. I'm not sure what changes have been made.

They are due to be reviewed in June 2026 but I think they may be reviewed sooner, after new NICE guidelines are published in Jan 2024 so keep an eye on them.

Thank you Sleepybunny,

It is good to read that North Tyne, Gateshead and Cumbria mention symptoms of dementia and psychosis.

There are huge differences between the symptom of dementia and a diagnosis of dementia. Likewise with the symptom of psychosis and the diagnosis of psychosis.

When patients are given a diagnosis of dementia, they may receive prescribed medication of Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, antipsychotics and/or antidepressants. Plus, have a therapy called Cognitive Stimulation theory to try and aid their memory, problem solving abilities and language abilities.

It is rather different to testing for P.A./B12 deficiency where the treatment is loading doses and maintenance doses with intramuscular injections of hydroxycobalamin or methylcobalamin.

😊
