Hi marg here ,was on 1.25 of Ramipril for a year have recently had it raised to 2.25 . Iam 68yrs and recently had a serious viral infection which put me in hospital last weekend for three nights. The hospital are the ones who raised the dosage. To be honest with you what is classed as high BP for someone of my age.Now the hospital said in paperwork that my BP was slightly raised hence the dosage change .Slightly ,do not get it. Please help .

There is a "high blood pressure support" forum which may have some insights from members:

although diet is probably no.1 for blood pressure (see my profile for nutrition tips) there was an interesting piece of research recently on the best exercise type to reduce blood pressure:

I think that your GP is the professional best able to judge the level of your medication, based on the pattern of BP particular to you. That is, if you can get hold of them. If you are able to measure your own BP, you will know that it can vary quite a lot during an hour, seated.

You can find guidelines of BP rates generalised for the two traditional genders (!) in various age ranges through your usual search engine, and may give you some solace in the meantime. Details of my own BP levels and experience of Ramipril would not help you.

Ramipril is designed to lower BP; 1.25 is a very small dose, and 2.5 is probably also quite low, as far as I am aware. Both are indications that your BP is thought to be a little on the high side. The rise evident in the hospital could have been a consequence of the viral infection.

So, ask your GP if you should remain on the 2.5 pill.

Hope that helps, Marg.
