Have just seen Morning Live this morning.

They discussed Nitrous Oxide effects and banning with Dr Xand - and he talked about it's effects on B12 !

This may be useful to those with B12 deficiency who are told that their nerve damage is "something else" or that they do not have nerve damage at all. Other symptoms were also mentioned.

Worth a watch on iPlayer ?

Thank you.

More information is needed regarding side effects of drugs. How many of us do not read the ‘Patient Information Leaflet’ in a box of simple paracetamol ?

People cannot be bothered but they do make interesting reads and are there to help people understand.

On I player now.Glad it was a topic discussed.

Third most popular recreational drug !!!

Also good to know for carers parents that in medicinal use nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen .

Good for awareness that thses symptoms

Exist with b12defiency on the t.v.

Pity when A and E medics 'assumed 'i was on recreational drugs

Or a panick attack or both

didn't see / know the link

With b12 deficiency symptoms!!!

If someone had actuslly taken this drug.

A big warning.

Cause and effect.

Had no idea in restaurant food either .

Or cream on a hot chocolate !

It was not much, but it was something... and widely watched.

Most previous reports about nitrous oxide dangers never actually mentioned the "B word" !

Nackpan … I can’t help it …I still wonder whether 10 or so hours on gas and air during labour triggered the beginning of my PA. Timeline of decline and symptoms fit, but then so does having a child, a full time job with commute and then the menopause.

No doubt a combination of things .The menopause caused my 'tipping point '

So many things contribute if one is susceptible

In 3 generations of women in my family

Not sure I'd know how !

Nackapan did find it on iPlayer.

I just happened to catch it on TV. Kept watching, hoping he'd say the cause of nerve damage facing those who have used nitrous oxide too often was B12 depletion.

He did. Good -because people listen to him.

Hope you can find it.

Thank you Cherylclaire and Nackapan, I was searching the radio instead of TV! Please could you say more about nitrous oxide? Is it used only in general anaesthesia or is it given to us in other forms? Childbirth? Many thanks

It is usually known about (as relates to B12 deficiency) by anaesthetists - but always worth checking that they are aware of any deficiency you have! Dentists more aware and amenable to alternatives in my experience. They seem to be taught about nitrous oxide and B12 depletion in B12 deficiency patients now. No-one objected to my requests in the past for alternatives- neither anaesthetists nor dentists.

I did get told off about not informing the dentist that I was put on Risedronate for osteoporosis: who knew that you had to ? I told them that I had already changed to Raloxifene, but they told me that Risedronate was there for life ! Glad I stopped early- they seemed concerned.

Nitrous oxide is not the only treatment for pain relief that is available. Yes, I would imagine that it is, or can be, used during childbirth.

Thank you Cherylclaire. I'm interested because although I don't have a B12D diagnosis (but am vegan) I definitely became worse after surgery in teens, after childbirth and after surgery in early thirties. Each time I didn't recover to how I had been before the birth/surgery. Would the effects wear off in time rather than persisting?
