Spinal cord stimulation for treatment of neuropathy

I came across the following article:

Spinal Cord Stimulation May Help Diabetic Neuropathy

A link to the article:

medscape.com/viewarticle/99...

I wondered whether there has been research on spinal cord stimulation for treatment of neuropathy related to B12 deficiency. I searched for quite a while and came across the following letter to a medical journal, from 1998:

Electrical spinal cord stimulation for

painful peripheral neuropathy

secondary to coeliac disease

It is available as a pdf file, which will probably be downloaded to your device via the following link. (You would have to know how to find downloads on your device.) Then look through the pdf for the title.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

This is the first I have heard of this treatment for neuropathy. Other studies might have been published, but I am out of time.

In theory I would have thought the obgective is to heal the damage that has occurred from B12 /PA. As far as I know there is only one way to do that by replenishing with what our bodies are lacking in. 🤔 💉 👈

ideally the damage will be caught in time and enough b12 injections given to repair the neuropathy but as this often doesn’t happen some of us are left with permanent neuropathy.

I’ve not heard of this treatment before, it’s an old article and I wonder if any research has been done on it since this was published.

I have permanent damage but cant say I feel this sort of treatment would cure - maybe it would mask the pain for a short while.

Having googled this treatment I couldn't find any further studies with regard to spinal cord stimulation !

Maybe they didn't find it beneficial long term.

It seems to be a nerve blocker used occassionally for diabetics .......

Do spinal cord stimulators help with neuropathy?

A spinal cord stimulator is like a pacemaker for diabetic neuropathy pain. It consists of two parts: a small pulse generator that is implanted under your skin, and two small wire leads that are placed near specific nerves along your spine.

These work together to block nerve pain.
