Locations for SC injection

Hi everyone. I've been self injecting into my roll of fat an inch either side of my belly button. Having upped to daily SI I'm wondering where else people inject? The injection sites are feeling lumpy, like the tissue is denser, so I'm thinking I should alternate w other sites? Also I'm getting a bit of bruising sometimes. Thanks

Anywhere you csn pinch a roll.Behind hips .

Thighs

Upper arms .

My husband Injects insulin 4 × a day .

Sc.

Bruising I've found very occasionally. Lumpiness csn occur if one area overused .

Whetef IM or sc.

Are you using a fine enough needle?

27-30G best with 1ml of fluid.

Anymore can cause problems if injecting alot.

Do you change the needle?

I use one to draw it up 21G

Then I use a 30G 1/2 " long needle.

Can use a 3/4 "depending on body size.

I give 2" away from belly button .

You may know all this .

Hope helpful

Very helpful, thank you .

I use insulin needles. I withdraw the b12 from ampules. I suspect I sometimes blunt the needle a little if I press down on the ampule with it, as sometimes it's harder to break the surface of my skin

Hi Sunnysidoop

Your question is timely as my tummy pin cushion is looking a little bruised too and I was wondering the same thing. Also in the last two injections the injection site has bled leading to bruising. I don’t think I am injecting differently (approaching 30 + injections) so was wondering if I was over doing a localised site. I look forward to reading replies to your post.

I inject daily and have for more than a year. I inject in a sort of circle around the navel, upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right. To the greatest extent possible, I look for a spot each time that looks "freshest", without signs of previous injections. (On the "upper" injections, I check to be sure I am below the ribcage.)

I tried above my navel today and it was very uncomfortable and bled a lot when I withdrew the needle - anyone any suggestions why?

I read somewhere in here ( or in the diabetes forum) of a lady who waits a minute or two after she SC injects, then she gently rubs/ massages the area she injected into for a short time. Dunno if it helps? Just sayin. 🌻

my dad now has a nurse to do his insulin injections and she counts to 25 before withdrawing the pen needle.

I’ve started doing the same with my b12 and then rubbing the area afterwards. I also alternate my belly and thighs SC and sometimes thighs only with IM.

I notice that I sometimes bruise with SC but very rarely with IM, probably because it’s injected more deeply.

I'm going to try leaving the needle in longer as sometimes a bit of the b12 oozes out on removing the needles.

My doc told me to wait one minute after injecting, then massage for 5 min

I have found the same “leakage” and leaving the needle in longer does help as does massaging the site. Thank you for sharing this.

hi

I was advised to inject into my thigh. Sometimes painful 😣. Also sometimes no matter how careful I am, I get bruising. So actually for me it would be good to have an alternative injection site like the belly. I’ll ask my doctor and get back to you.

My GP practice injected into muscle but my consultant advised into fat or to use the more professional term sub-cutaneous ie under the skin. The latter is far less painful in my experience and as most of my fat is around my tum that is the preferred site. Thankfully bikini 👙 days are long past! 😂
