Is there any way to turn off that notice that tells you "Looks like you clicked 'xxxxx.com' If you do not want to visit that page, you can close this browser tab." ? Really? You don't say...
Bit of PITA every time you try to go to a link in a posting here. Been online since the 1990's, I've never seen this on any other site. I really can't see how anyone would think this is necessary, just ANNOYING.

I believe it's there for security reasons. If someone posts a malicious link, and you click it by mistake, the redirect warning gives you a chance to back out before you visit the site.
Many sites don't display a shortened link (automatically). Which HU does. And that makes it less confusing when people post long and very long links. It is precisely because you can't see the full link that HU always put the intermediate page in.
Many other systems that do shortening, like tinyurl, offer the option of displaying the full link.
Some search engines also do show intermediate pages (in some circumstances). And so do some ad blockers (and similar).
Again, I've never seen any other site do this, short links or otherwise. Come on, really? Users are well aware of the pluses and minuses of being online. At the very least, users should have the option of NOT having to go through this unnecessary step each and every time they click a link
This is a platform feature not a forum feature. Suggest you contact HU directly. It is there, as Helvella says as a safety measure. We don't get it very often on this forum but some sites are plagued by spammers and other undesirables posting links that are malicious and the idea is to protect you by forcing you to think twice.
