Assuming you are in the UK, pretty much, no.

If you buy anything from a UK company, they will charge VAT.

If you buy anything from a non-UK company, it would be expected that the marketplace you go through (whether the company's own or a big portal) will charge VAT. Unless over £135 when you become liable directly. If they do not charge VAT, that might be picked up by Border Force and you will end up paying more than the tax would have been.

The odd one-person-and-a-cat-or-dog seller might not charge VAT, but they would not be able to reclaim VAT on what they buy in. So the cost likely ends up much the same.

I meant import tax on goods from Europe. Anywhere else I can just buy b12 without paying import tax?

There is no special import tax - just VAT.

If you buy from USA, Canada, Russia, Mexico, China, or anywhere else, you will either be charged the VAT at time of purchase or could find Border Force picking it up.

Europe is the same as everywhere else - and vice versa.

Well there is the import tax now that Brexit is here. It used to not cost me more to buy from Germany. Now it does

It isn't a Europe tax. It is simply Europe being treated exactly the same as the rest of the world.

Before brexit, small orders from Europe would have had VAT charged by the company at the rate of the country they are in. For example, an order from Germany was charged at German VAT rate.

Now, the German company sells with no German VAT but they are expected to charge UK VAT and remit that VAT to HMRC.

There is no special import tax - just VAT. Though it might be classified as sales VAT or import VAT as the rates are the same, it makes no difference.

(The under £15 exemption has also disappeared.)

I have received 3 orders of B12 ampoules from German online pharmacies , since Brexit , and there has been no duty to pay . We pay the same as German purchasers pay , plus the courier charge . I think that duty is payable when the imported goods are over a certain value .

I have been ordering from German online pharmacies for 6 years , and have always paid for delivery . I order 100 ampoules at a time because I buy for friends who have P.A. Delivery is always the same charge , no matter how many packets you buy .

Thnx so much! I see that Versand run a reward scheme. Bodfeld don’t but they charge less for the meds. Has anyone found what works out cheaper in the end?

Prices often change , but in the long run i use versand because i like paypal and Bodfeld insist on Bank Transfer which for me is a right caper .

The last time i tried to order from Bodfeld and tried to pay with Paypal , i got a message saying that U.K. purchasers can only pay with Bank Transfer . Perhaps it’s changed the policy .Bodfeld don’t do rewards i believe .

I cant remember what the rate is now You are awarded points according to the value of your order . They are turned into cash which you can use in a future order . Just looked it up

If this is your first purchase , and you register for an account , you get 200 points

For every euro you spend , you get 1 point

When you have 250 points , they are turned into €2.50 Whjch you can use with the next purchase .

Why hevert ampoule is not popular and pharma24 asking prescription for hevert 100 ampoule?

wedgewood profile image
wedgewood in reply to Hamayeshguy

Hevert are more expensive than Panpharma and also are 2 ml ampoules People would rather inject 1ml Technically all German online pharmacies should be asking UK customers for a prescription for B12 ampoules because they are not supposed to sell any items to countries where that item is for prescription . ( like in U.K.) But i think that they overlook that because B12 is harmless . I once exchanged emails with a German online pharmacy on the subject .

Technically, the company should be reducing their price by German VAT and then charging UK VAT. If they do, then you as customer will not be charged by Border Force.

German standard rate is 19%. Which is very close to UK 20% rate. So in terms of numbers, they almost identical. But German VAT goes to the German government; UK VAT goes to the UK government.

Duty is a separate matter and only applies over £135 and if the goods are dutiable - alcohol, perfume, and certain other classes of good.

Ah I see thanks! Yes I meant the duty tax. So if I order meds over 135 I’ll be charged yes? Do u know if it applies to electronics too? The duty for these is enormous. I thought we pay duty on every order from Europe now

helvella profile image
helvella in reply to Ehysibi

Right. :-)

Below £135, any possible duty is simply ignored. Regardless the product. As the transaction is considered as being retail to a consumer.

Above £135, it depends on the precise classification, and that can be very complex. Effectively, above £135 is regarded as a business to business transaction.

Also, above £135, the seller will NOT have charged VAT, so you as the importer will be charged VAT.

For small orders, the cost of managing the customs clearance (VAT and duty being assessed and, if needed, collected) can be out of proportion to what you are buying.
