Hi, i am 20 years old and i have been very poorly since January 2nd. All of a sudden i got chest pains and since then i have been unwell and gradually gotten worse with heart palpitations, dizziness, breathing problems, severe anxiety constantly, stomach aches, blood in poo, sharp pain in my chest/back area that feels like something is there, pains in arms, lump in neck, pain under armpits, very weak and pain basically all over. I have been to the doctors and had bloodtests done and they said my kidney and liver is okay but my thyroid levels are a bit higher than usual and i am needing b12 injections next week. Does this sound like this is because of a b12 deficiency? I am in pain and scared everyday, my breathing and anxiety is so bad.

The sudden onset doesn't sound like B12 as symptoms usually come on very slowly - years or even decades - though they do snow ball towards the end. Thyroid may be involved as well though again the sudden on-set not quite the usual pattern.

Blood in stools doesn't really fit with either B12 or thyroid but could be an infection of some sort.

I'm sorry you so ill.

It could also be an autonomic dysfunction . This gives chest pain . Anxiety . Digestive issues.

So many conditions overlap

If you having b12 inje tions you musyve had a blood test showing you have a deficiency .

So you are being treated on what is being found step by step.

Ask about folate and iron levels too. Aksi vitamin D.

I hope the b12 injections give you some relief.

It will take time working through everything.

Treat the b12 first

Then folate . Your doctor will know this.

That will make you feel better in time when levels settle and are maintained .

Meanwhile get Investigatiibs to rule other things out

One of my daughters had terrible joint pain ect with low fokate and b12 .

My onset of pain and symptoms was very much like yours and although some people and medics and research says the inset of B12 deficiency is sudden I can assure you mine all came at once. I remember going to my Gp with a long list of complaints - many the same as yours and saying I thought I was dying! Up until then I was a very healthy person with a great career and had rarely been to my GP. It will take some time to get back on track but I can very much assure you if i am anything to go by your symptoms are not unique to B12 deficiency.

Did you explain all of your symptoms to the doctor? Have any of your symptoms appeared or got worse since that appointment or have you had any unexpected weight loss? If so I would ask to see the GP again. Coronavirus can cause stomach problems in some patients as well as breathlessness - did you get tested for it? Might be worth you asking for an antibody test if you weren’t tested at the time. I hope you start to feel better soon :)

Were you tested for COVID? Both current and Anti-bodies for past infection? I'm asking as most of those symptoms could be COVID-19 or post-viral Long COVID. If you haven't been tested it would be worth asking if they could do that when you go for B12 injections. The good news is that your GP is obviously being very thorough and it's great that you are getting B12 injections promptly - you must be low for the GP to act, so the injections should help.

If you post your test results on here some lovely people will advise on what the results mean, e.g. If your B12 is very low, or just slightly low etc..

Have you asked on the Thyroid UK group re' your thyroid results? Also worth posting results on there to see if you are really hyper, or just borderline, & ask about the lump in your neck too.

Have you tried a good Curcumin/Turmeric supplement to help reduce inflammation? I.e. should help pain in joints - I was reading only the other day that it also helps with anxiety, my assumption on that is that it reduces brain inflammation.

Do you do anything for relaxation? Yoga, Tai Chi or Meditation?

GP should give you a printout of test results - this can often be sent via email - then post everything on here - please be very specific & include ranges.

Also useful to keep a diary of symptoms, then it's straightforward to look back & see when things start or improve - give yourself a score every day for pain, mood etc. - very useful for seeing what improves with treatment.

Take care of yourself: keep warm; drink lots of water & get lots of sleep.

You will get through this, & there are lots of people to help on here.
