Fighting the fight for injections

I was diagnosed with PA last July. Had a set of six loading doses. I was contacted in August about extremely low iron levels (iron tablets had been prescribed in July, but no one told me!)

I managed to wangle a further b12 injection off the back of this in August, as a 'it might help'.

At the end of October, I had to wait for a nurse to ring me for a triage appointment (!!) and I was told by the nurse that I should only need the injection every 12 weeks (although I have neurological symptoms) and that as my levels were 'fine' and 'in range', I didn't need more, as they 'didn't want to overdose me'... I rang up and made an appointment anyway.

By the end of November, I felt like crap again, but have dragged myself to work every day since. Proving a point more than anything, I suppose.

I rang for an appointment again today - the nurse is going to ring me on Wednesday morning, to triage me once again! This whole process is driving me mad. If anyone knows of any doctors in Northampton who take PA seriously, please do let me know!

Write to your GP.

Explain that you need to be treated, as described in the British National Formulary, with injections every 8 weeks.

Keep the letter simple - just a few lines - and on topic.

cc: the letter to the Practise Manager, your local MP, local press, radio and TV.

Thanks for the reply. A letter will be my next step. However, symptoms start to return after about 3 weeks after having an injection. Will have to see if I can actually get anyone to listen!

Get them to give the treatment you're supposed to have first.

Then you can try fighting to get the injections monthly.

B12 CANNOT be overdosed . Blood testing for B12 totally waste of time once treatment has started . ( That’s in the guide lines too )

Thanks for the reply. See, I know all this, but it is so frustrating that no one in the medical profession seems to!
