Feeling Really Ill

I’ve been feeling a lot better for the last few months, however 3 days ago I noticed I would suddenly go extremely tired and can’t function after eating. Head pressure, bloating and the most disgusting taste in my mouth that won’t go. Altmy lips and tongue are extremely sore and I’m having bouts of diarrhoea. What is it? I have had these symptoms before, a few years ago.

Is your folate okay?

Or do you need more b12?

Or lacking any vits or minerals

Look at tour diet too . Havd an acidic drink at the end of your meal.

Glad you had a good period.

Hooe you get back there soon

Hi Hayley it’s sounds as if you’d do well to cut out gluten and lactose from your diet as you maybe intolerant.

Stop for a couple of weeks and you’ll see if any changes very soon after stopping. Its very easy to do these days it definately sounds like your suffering from intolerance this would cause any of these symptoms.xx

Are you over due your b12 injection? (I presume you are diagnosed with pernicious anemia?)

It still sounds like B12 symptoms to me, although other vitamin/ mineral deficiencies might be looked at too. Have you had folate, ferritin, vitamin D and thyroid checked ? Printout of results are worth holding on to as sometimes low-range results can be seen as "normal- no action" when direction of travel worth investigating, too. GPs usually happiest if ferritin is over 60 ug/L, for example, although range starts at around 13 ug/L.

I have had diarrhoea as a symptom pretty much every day for years, whatever I eat. FODMAP diet for 3 months did nothing at all for me. Did you ever get tested for SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth)- a hydrogen breath test ? These bacteria can rob you of several vitamins, including B12. Might be worth investigating.

You can have a look at my past posts and see what my tongue and mouth look like in photos. Apparently these are fairly typical for B12 deficiency.

Angular cheilitis (split sore corners of mouth) - an oral medicine consultant told me to throw away any lip salves or creams and use only nipple cream ! If you wash your hands well, you can apply a small amount with a fingertip straight from the tube (no going back for seconds) and do this twice a day. Cream in a tub or pot, you will need a spoon to avoid recontamination.

This cleared it up completely within a couple of weeks. This was a condition I had had for about 15 years !

Meanwhile he has taken swabs and is trying to grow cultures to see what the bacteria could be. I just thought it was just another B12 deficiency symptom and I was stuck with it. He said if you have deficiencies, you are more likely to get this. He would have preferred my ferritin to be at 80ug/L, but try as I might, couldn't get it there. He didn't like my tongue either, size shape or colour, but said it is improving. Doesn't like the groove in the middle much though. Hoping at some point when this pandemic is over, I will see him again.

If I eventually find out anything else of use, I will post it on here.

Thanks guys for your posts. I self inject and have my B12 every week, have done for over 3 years and that keeps me well B12 wise. My folate is high and I was anaemia, but that was treated with iron. I’m thinking more it’s something else unrelated such as a kidney problem?

I do try to avoid gluten, but it comes on even if I have something that doesn’t contain gluten, such as a banana. I’m also thinking spleen problems as I have a pain on the left side of my stomach

It could also be HPylori Hayley I’ve suffered on and off over the years with this it’s more common than people realise.ask your gp to do a stool test to check for it treatment is triple therapy two different antibiotics and a ppi.if sample comes back positive.you should then have a breath test after your treatment to make sure it’s cleared up.hpylori stays in the blood so a blood test would only show if you had it but not if it’s active that’s why you need a stool test done.

Worth checking you’ll feel so much better if you get treatment if you have it.x
