for the last couple of years I have been suffering with cold urticaria (I break out in hives when out in the cold, or even cold water on my hands can cause the hives to appear)
I mentioned this to a friend I had not seen for some time, when we were discussing our health problems and I was telling her which supplements I was taking (B-Complex with methylfolate) and she said she had read that methylfolate can rise histamine levels.
This got me wondering if this is the case could this be the cause of my cold urticaria.
Any thoughts anyone?
Many thanks.

I've not been able to find anything searching the scientific literature.
There is stuff on clickbait websites from med-school dropouts that hint of a possible relationship between methylfolate and histamine. But they don't give references. They don't give justifications. Indeed, different websites don't seem to be able to agree if the problem is too much methylfolate or too little.
These websites exist to make money. And the more people that visit the site, the more people might click on a advert, the more money the site makes. So they try to find links between methylfolate (or whatever their particular magic potion is) and everything else under the sun.
If you want to know for sure - try stopping the B complex. If you do, and the urticaria goes away, then it was probably due to the B1 in it. That causes more allergic reactions than any other vitamin - allergologyinternational.co...
