Hi,all out there,as a sufferer of b12 def and p.a is anyone aware that b12 def/p.a could be linked to lung disease at all,I’ve recently been diagnosed with lung disease as since July 2017 when i got pneumonia and sepsis,I’ve been getting recurring lung infections and have been on and off anti biotics every few weeks due to this,I have nodules in my right lung that are growing and im waiting to have another pet scan soon as part of these investigations,my consultant or g.p aren’t able to say if this could all be linked to my b12/p.a,this is all extremely worrying, having b12 def and p.a is bad enough and this on top of all that only makes things a lot worse both physically and mentally, apologies for asking this but I’m hoping someone can answer my question,thanks...fenty.

hi fenty ,my experience is pneumonia with a collapsed lung as a toddler ,one chest infection after another requiring antibiotics as a teen, pleurisy at age 40,also my mum was told she has a nodule on her lung earlier last year and is checked every few months.I have been SI b12 weekly for a few months now and most of my symptoms have gone but the breathlessness on exertion(sometimes just sitting as well)that i have had all my life has'nt changed as yet so i think that people with PA have a susceptibility to lung problems.I hope you get through this and feel well soon

Thanks for replying, with the problems b12 def/p.a brings to us,I’m sure it does have some kind of effect elsewhere lungs/breathing included, the trouble is that our own g.ps only have set guidelines and tend to think that everyone who’s diagnosed with b12 def/p.a all suffer exactly the same,so are all treated the same and that’s just not so,as you’re aware we all have good and bad days and we all know the knock on effects this blight has on us that does affect us,in all honesty until i was diagnosed as having b12 def/p.a i didn’t even know it existed,I just thought you were given iron supplement for a week or two and that was that, back to feeling normal again,I’ve had a word with my respiratory consultant who said that what he understands of b12 def/p.a it’s possible that somewhere down the line it may well be somehow connected,my g.p has a different opinion and thinks not,he really doesn’t know much other what he’s read regarding national guidelines for the nhs treatment of b12 def/p.a,ive given him Martin hoopers book “ living with b12 deficiency” to read,i was surprised he accepted my offer for him to read it and suggested he passes it to the other g.ps at my practice to give them a better understanding of how it affects us all that suffer with it,I’m sorry to hear the problems you’ve had from a young age, that would have been so hard and frustrating for you and your parents at a time when you just wanted to enjoy being a young teenager,I hope things are much easier for you now,I hope your mum is getting the medical attention needed, have these nodules in her lung had any adverse affects as mine are growing and are on a main airway, the concern is that it will block my air intake, broncheactasis has been mentioned so it rests on a “watch and wait approach” for the time being, ive just had my b12 shots brought forward to every six weeks instead of every 12 weeks and I’m back on folic acid, iron for two months and vitamin d supplements,so I’ve got a bit more going off at the moment to contend with, like myself you’ll know how this affects us on a day to day basis and it’s very comforting to know people like yourself reply back to our questions when we ask,all the best to you and likewise I hope you and your mum get good days and i wish you both well health wise, thankyou for replying back to me with your comments...fenty.
