Today's funny...

I spoke with my GP about my B12 today. She has been harping on that my level has only just dropped since January (337 down to 192) so I cannot possibly have any neuropathy. I reminded her that it was 217 a year ago. She then said they have dropped their threshold to 190 now....

You must be a "moving target" Hercules1969 :)

Funny but terrifying.

Have I understood correctly - because they have decided to change the threshold for what constitutes deficiency, and you don't fit that, you are therefore not ill /don't have neuropathy even though you WERE ill before the threshold was altered?

Are we living in some crazy fictional dystopia?

Pretty much. I am changing doctors. They utterly refuse to listen on B12. I am self administering sublingual anyway. I have had 11 diagnosis of fibromyalgia recently but I would not be surprised if b12 is still an issue within that. They have always seen my serum score as borderline. Many doctors do.

Through a Facebook page, I hear of so many GPs being like this. Unfortunately, neurological symptoms can occur with results under 500 let alone your reading.

Sublingual tablets will not be as effective at repairing the nerve damage, you should have alternate day injections as per BNF/NICE guidelines otherwise you run the risk of permanent damage.

Have you considered self injecting?

I cannot afford the injections. I have an £8 bottle of B compound from Holland & Barrett. I had to quit my job in February.

Sorry to hear that, sounds like you're having as good a year as we are. The b12d charity have donations to cover starting people on injections. They also have lots more information on their site.

I now buy through versandapo in Germany and needles etc from Medisave. Injections work out less than £1 each.

I hope things improve for you.

Don't you just love moving goal posts! I was diagnosed with diabetes nearly 20 years ago. But I don't have it anymore, because the goal posts have been moved and I am now JUST under the threshold where treatment is given!

Quelle Surprise. I am moving from that surgery. They treat numbers on screens rather than patients.
