Hi Frances55

I think the most common reason for using the thigh is access. If you are self-injecting, you only have one hand to do the injection which can be somewhat tricky.

I changed from thigh to doing sub cut into abdomen, changing to Orange (25g) needle and have found it to be much easier, no contortions and plenty of choice re where to inject ;)

I'm of the understanding that S/C takes just a bit longer to absorb than IM injection but, having been self-injecting for several weeks now, I didn't feel it would make any difference, and I haven't noticed any difference :)

I inject I.M. I read somewhere that it was absorbed better .If you chose I.M. It is easy to access the thighs ( middle outer third , nearest to where the muscle is at the surface ) ) and alternate .Many PA. patients do use subcutaneous successfully . I.M. is totally painless once you have worked out a routine with it . Which evermethod you use , be strict about hygeine. Best of luck ( look for videos on Utube)

Thanks for getting back to me ☺.... I didn't really know if there was a beneficial difference... I suppose I'm happy enough getting on with alternating arms and thighs... I think I hit a vain in my Thigh though the other day.. Is that possible.. Very sore ouch... All the best ☺...

Well I once hit something ( don't know if it was a vein) and blood just shot out ! Pressed a swab on it for a bit and it stopped. That's only once in 2 years . Didn't affect me at all .

Yeah didn't affect me other than it being painful 😔...when I looked closely to where I injected the next day I noticed a vain underneath... 😔......

I hope so... Wasn't nice 😔... I can't seem to do it pain free 😔... Maybe with a bit more experience it'll be pain free ☺....

I've hit a vein once. Yes, painful and bloody but on my thigh, I can at least shine a brighter light and look for the blue veins and avoid hitting one. So far, so good!

For me, it's easier to inject my thigh.
