Constant fatigue

I was diagnosed with PA around 10 years ago and have been on 3 monthly injections ever since even through one pregnancy (and two miscarriages).

I've been lucky to not really have any symptoms.

I'm 42 now and in the last 6 months have been experiencing much more fatigue than normal. I could easily fall asleep at 5pm and during any car journey that lasts more than 30mins.

I work part time and have a 4 year old who has a tendency to wake up at 6am but I wondered if it could mean I need more frequent injections?

Has anyone else had experience of symptoms getting worse (or appearing) after being stable for such a long time?

Hi pixiekp If you have P.A. and have neurological symptoms you ought to be having your injections every eight weeks not twelve according to the N.I.C.E and B.N.F Guidelines.

Make a list of your symptoms and ask your doctor to increase the frequency of your B12 injections and also ask to have your Folate level checked as these two help your iron function properly.

1.2 Neurological Symptoms

The neurological symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency may include:

Numbness and tingling of the arms and more commonly the legs

 Difficulty walking

 Loss of balance

 Hands feel gloved with loss of sensitivity

 Loss of vibration sense, having to look down to see where you are walking

 Unable to close your eyes and stand on one foot

 Night vision

 Memory loss

 Disorientation

 Dementia

 Extreme mood changes

 Short term memory loss

Some experience many of these symptoms and some none of them. It depends on how quickly the PA is treated and on how well managed it is.

I'm not a medically trained person but have had P.A. for over 45 years.

I wish you well
