B12 loading doses

My b12 has finally arrived from Germany!

There seem to be conflicting information on loading doses. Would people mind telling me what worked for them?

Thanks!

Is it possible that you can have someone with you when you do the first injection just in case you have an adverse reaction?

If you are having neurological symptoms the N.I.C.E guidelines are for injections every other day until there in no further improvement.

Do you know what your Folate level is?

I'm not medically trained but there are others on here who do S.I. and can give you advice

My husband will be doing it! My folate levels were low, cannot remember the number but I have been supplementing. I'm just worried that every other day will be too much as I've read some horror stories and it can take months to feel well again?!

You will be in control but alternate days are the recommended loading doses.

As to "horror stories" - you may have to be prepared for some neurological symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better. Ironically this can be taken as a "good sign" as it indicates that the B12 is starting to repair the damage done to your nerve endings caused by the B12 deficiency. All of a sudden your brain is being bombarded with signals from parts of the body it had previously "forgotten about".

There can be no set timeline for recovery as we are all different and a lot with depend on the severity and longevity of your B12 deficiency. That said, some symptoms my improve straight away whereas others may take a bit longer.

Make a list of all your symptoms, grade them from one to ten on their severity and mark off each day their improvement or otherwise.

How much Folate have you been supplementing?

As I say I'm not medically trained but have had P.A and B12 injections for more than 45 years and I'm still "clivealive" at over 75.

I wish both you and your husband well.

I have just been taking one folate tablet a day.

Thank you so much for your support.
