HI I have PA and wanted to know if anyone else suffers with calf cramps? Since diagnosed It has been much better but I occasionally get them and they are awful. Any suggestions on what to do to prevent them?

psmlt,

I used to drink a glass of water with a pinch of salt for a few days which eased leg and foot cramps. Magnesium citrate, magnesium oil spray and Epsom Salt baths can all help reduce and relieve leg cramps.

I'm back on Quinine again as it was stopped awhile ago but doc allowed me on a lower dose. It is fantasic for leg cramps and I find now it's also helpibg with RLS which is super. Because of late this was driving me bonkers every night i take Primipexol as well for it. I have had diahorrea for the past 5 weeks doc thinks it's IBS all tests i had have all come back clear praise God. But I've just been left at that with no follow up or no definate diagnoses just that he thinks it might b IBS. Is 5 weeks not too long a period for diahorrea to last if its IBS?

Lilmo1,

I believe persistent diarrhoea is a symptom of IBS.

Hi pslmt. Just a thought...calcium deficiency or low calcium can cause cramp, especially in the calfs...Imknow 'cause I had it...and it's not good.

So...have you had your calcium levels checked?

👍

thanks, no I haven't lately had my calcium checked. I take a magnesium glycinate supplement 2 times a day tho. I will have to look into the calcium.

I get calf cramps mainly on my left one can hurt a lot at times , the calf muscle used to contract so badly when I was asleep it woke me up & felt like hard concrete & took ages to relax it & able to walk on it, I was given quinine tablets to help with the muscle cramps but don't get them as bad as that anymore so stopped taking them ,

I heard bananas are good for calf cramps as the potassium in them helps,

I go through phases of calf cramps, but mine happen when I'm out walking, not at night - usually when I'm miles from anywhere! (And with no phone signal) Then I have to hobble all the way back home again. The muscle is really sore for a few days, then eases off, but comes back when I go for a walk again. There's no rhyme nor reason. Sometimes it cramps up in a few minutes, sometimes after a few miles. It can be ok for weeks or months, then it starts happening again. Doc doesn't seem worried, I've had scans, measurements and bloods done, she just thinks I'm overdoing it - maybe she's right, or maybe she's not.
