Do I dare..

I have an appointment to see the senior doctor at my practice and I intend to make a complaint about the doctor who has overall care (ha!) of my PA. Some of you may remember that after I begged for a B12 (I could hardly walk) and it was refused, I went to a private doctor in desperation. Next time I went to my gp for a B12 like a fool I told her and was, in effect, chucked out, without the injection, in tears. Anyway my question is this ... I have a copy of Martyn's book - should I give it to her? Or would that end in further banishment.......... I am actually thinking of other people in the practice some of whom probably have PA. comments please

Personally i wouldnt give the book. They seem pretty closed about the whole b12 thing. You could ask if they would be interested in reading it as it is the most up to date where information is concerned. But i wouldnt hold your breath.

I gave my sally pacholok book to my gp - suspect it is landfill as there was no interest in its contents what so ever.

They need to be re- educated from a higher source than us mere patients i think. There are a few who have the drs interested enough to not only order further testing of their patients, but are also open to finding out more about the condition and how it affects us, and sometimes that can be as varied as a restaurant menu. They are the lucky ones.

It is easier to treat by numbers than symptoms for some of the harried gps in our overstretched nhs.

I am one of the lucky ones. I feel guilty.

Why don't you call the PA society, they often intervene on patient's behalf and speak to doctors. They are more likely to listen to them than you, unfortunately. :(

Hi jillc39 I think you are being very brave standing up for your rights and as you have P.A. you need B12 for life from your NHS doctor regardless where you (in desperation) got some from elsewhere. To have been refused borders on the criminal.

I would strongly suggest that you take someone with you for "moral support" as this will make it less like that the "senior doctor" at your practice will be able to dismiss you out of hand in support of his colleague.

I wish you every success with this endeavour and applaud your courage.

Way to go, Jillc39! You have my total admiration for standing up for your ( and other's) rights. Best wishes for a positive outcome. :-)

thanks - yes I am taking my son in law (he is pretty high up in the NHS) for support. and have documented each step of the horrible way. I will let you know after Tuesday.

I do hope you find a solution.

I did give a (signed) copy of Martyn's book to my GP. He read it and passed it around his colleagues. But I am lucky enough to have a doc with an open mind.
