I believe that that is a footwear problem. I used to get them every time I needed new trainers. I over-pronate. My hips used to get very very bad and probably contributed to my osteoarthritis.

I don't think so. Many patients have shin splints until they get treatment - I got it very bad (I didn't know what it was) until I got treatment. And I wore the same 'type' of boots for almost 5 years - both before and after treatment.

Hi I used to get shin splints every time I played squash. Unfortunately am unable to play anymore due to horrendous headaches after any sporting activity that requires exertion. Again was unaware this could be related to b12 issues as I haven't played squash for over 8 years now and only recently diagnosed.

I was speaking to someone a few months ago who I suspected had b12 deficiency. He was being (more than) a little arrogant and asked me what his symptoms were. It went like this:

You have a white patch coming through on the stubble under your chin.

He is normally clean shaven and couldn't believe I'd spotted it. Being short does have some advantages!

I told him he also had one in his hair line in the back of his head - he looked like I'd punched him.

You have half moons on your thumbs but not on your fingers.

You are permanently cold no matter what the weather.

Your skin is getting whiter and more translucent.

You are losing muscle in your arms but not in your legs - you must wonder what is happening.

Your hair loss is increasing.

Your thigh muscles ache

You probably have muscle fibrilations by now (confirmed that he had one jumping in his knee)

You're finding it harder to concentrate on a task

You are 'losing' your words (admitted immediately)

You probably have shin splints by now ( his response - would that be a soreness in the long bone at the front between the knee and ankle?)

You have tremor making you look nervous when you aren't nervous.

Your vision is getting blurred. It is changing throughout the day.

I'd got all of them correct - and I never even mentioned the impotence because I didn't want to embarrass him.

And do you know what he did? He went to 'ask' someone else about what he should do and they advised him to eat liver once a week.

Good luck with that, mate. Because you're gonna need it!

Yes, I had shin splints as well as Achilles pain. This happened about three years ago and was subsequently followed by extreme fatigue.

Ooh! Now then. I had the Achilles problem but round about 2,000 well before the b12 problem. I couple of times I actually got 'stuck' because my ankles wouldn't bend. Went to the docs and she said it was best to live with it because they could do an op but if it went wrong I wouldn't be able to walk.

Oooh.
