My walking has deteriorated over the last 12 months.

It was in October last year I noticed it difficult to get a grip with my feet when climbing stars, plus not trusting my balance. It was then I had to invest in a walking stick, I then began to have a sensation of very cold feet. So I invested in slippers & thicker socks.

Floors seemed to get harder, if that makes sense & I kept checking for swellings on the soles of my feet, as the sensation of walking on what I can only describe as a massive blister with thick skin, which felt as though it began under my toes, the balls of my feet, down to the heel. (I hope I am making sense).

Constant checking showed nothing, so I mentioned it to my doctor, who prescribed Carbapazemine, they had me jerking & falling, so a visit back to the docs & I was taken off them.

The numbness went into my legs and up to my perineum & then inside.

It was then I got to see the neurologist who was very interested in my symptoms, he scraped the bottom of my foot with a spike of sorts & I hit the roof. I could not stand anything, still can't, touch my feet.

My feet are freezing, I have difficulty walking, I cannot wear shoes, I am accompanied by an electric foot warmer, as the pain & the feeling of freezing feet is unbearable.

My walking is limited, feet & toes are painful, cold feeling constantly. I have to see every step I make & am conscious of every thing that approaches my lower limbs.

In a nut shell, yes, I have an inner cold of my feet, walking is difficult & losing my balance is a constant fear when having to use stairs.

Tomorrow I am in hospital, I am to have a nerve extraction, so my neurologist can have a look at it & see if it differs in any way, to others nerves.

I have had extreme low levels of B12 & Folates, talk of severe nerve damage has been mentioned. My right side Thoracic nerve died about 25 years ago, (paralysis of the long thoracic nerve of bell) - I was told not to worry, it would grow back.

Now at 47 it looks like something is going to happen.

I hope this reply fits in with what you are asking, if not, I do apologize, but thank you for allowing me to talk about my last 12 months.

Many thanks

David Mason.

Hi Jane 123,

I have just sent a question regarding similar issues to yourself....Yes, I feel very cold at times and have trouble with any small activities such as up and down stairs - what is really frightening is sometimes I am grasping for breath....does this happen to you? How often are you having injections? WE will fight this together......!! How do you feel about self injecting B12? apparently there is no problem with too much B12 as any not needed we urinate out.... Have a think about things...Hope this helps? GT

Hi gillandandy

Yes I do grasp for breath sometimes. Dr said I could only have injections every 3 months. I am thinking of self injecting B12 as I fill so ill, no sure where best to get them

Hi Jane,

I don't have the 'cold' feeling, however I am having some difficulty walking up and down stairs. My legs feel very heavy and 'tired' (like the rest of me) which is bizarre as I am only 28 and until 4 weeks ago (when I was diagnosed with B12 deficiency) didn't appear to have any health problems. Sometimes I sound like I'm wheezing... Is this something you do?

Kat
