Hi, was diagnosed as having PA in July - had the 6 booster injections, but still feel really tired and lethargic.

Had more bloods done about 4 weeks after my boosts and they came back as OK. Have to wait about another 6 weeks for my next injection. I really don't feel any different. Does anyone else have this - how long should it take to feel better? I will be a full 3 months from my last injection to my next. Unsympathetic doctor!!

I had similar problems for a couple of years - checked my blood tests and my iron and folic levels were in normal range, but only just. Started taking folic acid and iron tablets and now feel nirmal! I would ask for a copy of your full blood tests - the print (if your in UK) tells you what the normal range is - see if you are at the bottom end of normal for anything

This is an NHS system of one size fits all , we are all different , P/A is Auto Immune (your own immune system attacking you ) , you may have other glands under attack . In my case Thyroid , P/A , Digestive section of Pancreas , Diabetes , Adrenal , the Doctors will tell you its ok ifs within the range but its better near the top , that goes for all vitamins and minerals . My B12 needs a min of 1000 , Zinc and Copper are essencial in absorbing all supplements into your system .

Hi Cassie 1972

Standard GP blood tests are a very small part of the problem and in effect tell you very little when looking at simply Serum B12. It is a good idea to get a print out of your bloods, including FBC, U's & E's, LFT's, Glucose, Thyroid, Folates, Amylase, Bone Profiles and anything else you can get, a lot can be read from such a full picture. Then you need to ask your GP to do an Intrinsic Factor Test, followed by a Parietal Cell Antibodies test. When you have got these results, then I suggest you ask your GP, if he is willing to send blood samples for HoloTC testing and if necessary MMA testing at Guys / St. Thomas's Hospital in London. The contact there is Denise O'blein and her direct line number is 0207 188 7188. The Director of Medical Research is Dr. Dominic Harrington, Dominic is a great chap and has a highly qualified team of people working on B12 and its associated problems. All this of course assumes you are in the UK.

Good luck and I hope you soon feel a lot better.

Thanks guys. I will see if I can get a copy of my bloods. I think they did test for Parietal Cell Antibodies and that was clear. I am in UK so will see what I can do on the above. Hopefully I will start to feel better soon. Thanks again.

Hi Cassie1972, not many people can get by on 3 monthly injections. As the others have said, you need good levels of folate and iron as well, but quite often it just comes down to more frequent injections. Lots of information and links on this website:
