Hi Pugsly, they don't explain it because they don't understand it. You need to visit this link if you can, takes you to lots more info if you use the tabs on the left:

b12deficiency.info/

These are support groups:

pernicious-anaemia-society....

b12d.org/

And there are 2 excellent books you can read:

Pernicious Anaemia: The Forgotton Disease - Martyn Hooper

Could It Be B12: An Epidemic of Misdiagnosis - Sally Pacholok & Jeffery Stuart

Also please make sure you have sufficient levels of folate and iron, very important, they work together with B12. You need to be top half of the range folate, and around 80 ferritin. We are also often low on vit D so get that tested if you can.

And make sure your doc checks your thyroid, coldness and tiredness could also be a sign of hypothyroidism.

sounds like you have auto immune , the feeling cold is a first symtom of low thyroid ,have you put on weight ?

there are plenty self help groups where you can get advice but thyroid is a national disgrace if levothyroxine does not work for you you are in trouble because the NHS and the Royal Colleges are running a Cartel payed by Abbott

/Synthroid the patent holder for synthetic Thyroid , stopping access to Natural Decicated Thyroid the only alternative treatment in use since 1890 .

You mean that when you have low thyroid, people tend to put on weight, right?

I don't have a thyroid problem but someone very close to me is

experiencing some symptoms of Goiter right now. I am looking

on for questions and answers.

Hi.....I had most of my Thyroid removed due to a Goitre, it was huge, and pushing on my windpipe, it also grew downwards into my chest cavity....the lump I could see in my neck was just the tip of the iceberg, however, back in 1994/5 they didn't remove them altogether, so I since have been told, but now, if so done presents with a Thyroid goitre on their thyroid! the lot gets removed and given thyroxine.......Goitre is a word given for the Lump on the Thyroid, as explained to me, anyway, when most or all thyroid is removed there is a tendency to be Under active Thyroid, this can cause all sorts os side affects, weight gain is one, and Heart can be affected if

NOT treated, same for Over Active Thyroid......lose weight, heart rate speeds up, My Mum had Over Active Thyroid, on meds for years, and my dad and myself had the same op having Goitre issues.....apparently it's hereditary..........I have since had retro with of the thyroid! didn't know that could happen, so where they removed most of Thyroid, the re growth is growing incorrectly, but have had many many biopsies on them! all good........sorry to ramble on, and if you see by my previous posts everything Linked health wise to RA, B12, unfortunately I've got as the years roll on despite being on MTX and Enbrel......worse ? ? :(
