Those with DBS, would you comment on your experiences with the leads--that is, do you feel them? do they interfere with any daily activity? Would you do it again?

I'm a rare commodity in that I've endured two major infections and five (count 'em) 5 surgeries with-in a year dealing with my DBS. I am approaching a solid year infection free , programmed and working wonderfully.

Guess I couldn't have said this a year ago, but I would do it all again!

It is great being able to get up in the morning and just go! I still take Sinemet, but almost cut in half the amount I was using before DBS.

The wires•••••••

The first time they were routed over my clavical more font and seemed to bother me more. I now have them coming much more down the side (almost to the back) of my neck and over my clavicalmuch to the side almost in line with my shoulder. Outside of neck stretches in Yoga I completely forget about them!

I generalize my DBS is only as good as the programmer. Do you agree?

Glad to hear that things are now working out for you. I'm approaching surgery on May 18 and I want to be aware of what could happen-- as I visualize the best outcome.

I really appreciate your experience and advice

As far as the wires go, I've not had too much problems. This is my second time with DBS. The first time worked fantastic although I developed an infectection and the whole thing had to come out. This second one has been nothing but problems, First the surgeon had to go back and recover the wires on the right side as they were sticking out. Second, my nuerologist is useless. He hates the newer programmers and has the rep from Medtronics do it. She seems to know her way around it but I've had such terrible balance problems, I've fallen about 7 times and my spech sunds like i'm drunk and I don't drink. Pelley, I think you've got it, " I generalize my DBS is only as good as the programmer. " I'm going Tuesday to give her one more chance then I'm going to go up to UF Gainesville Nuero center where Dr. Okun is. I live in Orlando, FL. Oh, almost forgot, on Thursday I have to go into the operating room for a plastic surgeon to add a little more skin to my left side on my head ( this was the side that got infected and the surgeon had goen in 4 times to get rid of the infection and everytime he was in there he cut back he skin a little so it would make it clean and striaght. At the present time I would not do this again.

Hi bud I have just had my battery replacement op bloody great I staggered in walked out 6 hrs later.

Don't get me wrong it's only as good as you let it be but if you work with the med team not against you will be fine

I would definitely do it again

It is not a cure but damn close . It still needs monitoring but just like the wriggle (pd) its a battle but I yet to meet someone with the wriggle ( pd) who is not a fighter.

I can't say I would do it again. It's been two years and the batteries stuill aren't set right and I haven't walked right since. My wire are sticking out so bad on my head the hurt when my glasses are on, or a head band is on. Sometimes it hurts to lay my head onm a pillow.

So sorry to hear about your experience--what are the prospects for correction and improvement? Where do you live?

I had my surgery in 2008, I have had 2 battery replacements. Would I do it again most definately. Nothing is perfect but it has made my life much better. The wires I hardly ever notice they go behind my left ear down to the battery, I hope this helps some.
