I started the Neupro patch about 2 months ago and so far I am very happy with it. I take it in addition to my other PD meds (Selegeline, C/L). The application site that seems to have the best adhesion and least irritation is my thigh. I keep the site shaved and it is high enough on my leg that no-one can see it when I where shorts. I started slowly at the direction on my MDS with 1mg/day and worked my way up to 4mg/day. So far, it works great. For the first time in many years I can walk pretty much normally much of the time and my off times are mild or non-existent. It allows me to go to work more easily. I have more energy to workout. The notable downside is I wake up around 3:30am almost every morning and can't get back to sleep. I help compensate for this by going to be earlier.

But I was happy with the results. Now because I am so tired my tremor is worse and feel bad. I am on 6 mg now, will raise to 8 mg.

Can you take it off at night so it doesn’t affect your sleep? This is why I don’t want to try Neupro.

No, I have to wear it 24 hours a day..

Why?

Because it does not work well otherwise

My husband has been on the Neupro patch for 6 years.. It was a miracle for us. He had been diagnosed first with depression and then Lewy Body Dementia. In fact he actually had severe apathy caused by the lack of dopamine. One of the neurologists suggested trying Neupro. Levadopa didn't seem to be doing much. Within a few weeks he was back to normal mentally . His diagnosis was changed to Parkinson's. He has been good mentally till recently. He's now been put on Xadago, which has improved him, but not as much as we'd hoped. We are trying B 1, B 12, magnesium, and Mannitol. The only thing you need to watch with Neupro is the side effect for some people of addictions..gambling for one. Our neurologist has had to take some patients off it. Good luck. I hope it works well for you.

Thx Gwendolyn. Because I am tremor dominant I am especially curious whether people get benefit from Neupro on their tremor?

The one thing my husband doesn't have is a tremor. Have they suggested DBS?
