I know the general definition of dyskinesia, but please share some real life examples of how it starts (first early signs), where it affects you, what it feels like. Thanks in advance.

Our son Martin was born with learning difficulties and his arm and leg movements always had an awkward appearance. He started dragging his right leg when he was 40 and was eventually diagnosed with early onset PD. By this time he had started freezing and was prescribed Sinemet. This helped his movement and it became an issue to keep the correct amount of Sinemet through the 24 hr cycle. At times usually half an hour before the next dose was due he would have spells of dyskinesia - usually sitting in an armchair he would be unable to keep his legs still - crossing and uncrossing them, shifting in the chair to try and get comfortable, he was an example of perpetual motion. After the next dose of Sinemet he would be OK until that started to wear off. His consultant prescribed Amantidine which helped reduce the dyskinesia but his behaviour was never entirely predictable and it is very difficult to be sure of the exact effect of these drugs.

Thank you for rounding out my understanding of these movements. The more I know, maybe the less I fear.

In the past two months I have started with a kind of gentle rolling in my trunk. My head also turns to one side slightly involuntarily. I notice it about an hour after I take my Sinemet before my Amantadine kicks in.

My husband's main symptom is strange movements he makes with his lips, kind of a pursing, while looking upward. I asked his movement specialist if that is dyskinesia and he said it is .

Before we all fall into violent anxiety and upset, triggering a downward spiral in symptoms, I want to remind you that we are here to avoid or delay these unpleasant consequences of PD, and IMHO (I must always write this from now on as with the cookies, after quoting Korbisky :-) ), I will avoid/retard/drop it. Many greetings from Italy. Hurray DR C.

For the record the reference below and last year, I liked the picture of the colosseum.

It's Sunday, so take a break. :-)
