Contacting Dr. Costantini?

James4K profile image
35 Replies

Can anyone tell me how to contact Dr. Constantini to advise me on the dosage of vitamin B1? I have had Parkinson's 2009 and currently I am on no medication other than supplements. I came across HealthUnlocked doing my research on Parkinson's and I am very happy to be a part of this community now. I would like to try vitamin B1 but I'm not sure of the dosage.

How can you have PD for 9 years and not be on anything?

My doctor wants to put me on drugs but I have resisted in hopes that alternative treatments would help. I am afraid of side effects when it comes to traditional drugs, so I have endured tremors for a while. Eventually I may have to give in if I don't find alternative relief

All you have is tremors? I take it they must be mild. No other symptoms?

My tremors are significant including my legs, I deal with anxiety and depression, and some pain in my joints

If you don't like prescription drugs, haven't you ever considered the herbal plant mucuna pruriens? It's been used for hundreds of years in India for Parkinson's. Many people on this site use it successfully.

Hi marion11005, no I have never tried mucuna pruriens, but I thought I would give it a try if the B-1 doesn't work. I have read about mucuna on John Grays website. He suggests a regimen of supplements including mucuna. He is the one that wrote the book Mars versus Venus that was so popular. Do you like mucuna better than high doses of B1 or do you do both?

gaga1958 profile image
gaga1958 in reply to James4K

I've taken mucuna and the amount needed to be helpful made me throw up. That is why carbidopa was added to levodopa, so it could be tolerated and not thrown up.

marion11005 profile image
marion11005 in reply to James4K

I don't use mucuna, I take carbidopa/levodopa. I have been taking B1 and am still fine-tuning the right dosage, but am very encouraged with my results so far. Even with the B1 you will still need some source of dopamine, be it from a synthetic or natural source, if your disease has progressed to the point that your brain is not able to provide enough natural dopamine. Dr Costantini discusses this frequently. If you haven't already, check out this link to his frequently asked questions.

Is the caridopa/levodopa that you take Sinemet? Or do you have a natural source?

It's generic Sinemet.

Well done for being drug free for so long. It must be hugely difficult at times but Colin Potter has done it and spent a vast amount of time researching many alternatives. Have a look at his website fight-parkinsons.org

Unfortunately my husband is presently in a bad way after 13 years with the disease but right now it's not the Parkinson's giving him the trouble, it's severe back pain, causing hip, thigh, calf and ankle pain (probably linked to Parkinson's, although he does also have osteoarthritis) He's on opioids & morphine and is now in a wheelchair because of it. We're in the UK and have to wait 5 months just to see a specialist 🙁

I understand there's also another website fightingparkinsonsdrugfree but I don't know too much about that one.

Hi James....my hubby also drug free for the same reasons as you...tried meds three times (not for long though, maybe two months at most) but side effects too bad...also now only on alternative ...he suffered terribly with muscle and joint pain, the high dose thiamine gave him relief within 24 hours and also helped with the rigidity and brain fog completely gone . He started on 6 (500mg) in the morning and six at around 3 pm. Reduced to 3 and 3 A’s per Dr. Constantini. We are currently in Viterbo, Italy to see Dr. Constantini today at 4pm so he can assess my hubby. He was diagnosed three years ago by a Neurologist in Cape Town and reconfirmed in U.K. They say he has probably had PD since he was in early 40’s. He is 59 now. Will update results on the forum for thiamine soon.

Hi James,

I find your efforts amazing. I am at 3 1/2 years with no meds. I have two gal friends at 5 years no meds. Prior to hearing your story, I was not aware of any other med free stories for longer periods. I will look up: Colin Potter's story as mentioned here.

It would be of great interest to hear from others on this site who have done the same. I'm very curious to learn more about the med free journey. Would you be interested in starting a new post for med free responses, your story is more compelling than mine. This way we would hear responses about both Mucuna and thiamine benefits when meds are not a part of the regiment.

Dr. Constantini and others may enjoy the empirical data on the pros and cons of thiamine, paired with Mucuna. Additionally I have a few friends on thiamine and Sinemet, who have expressed hopes of switching to thiamine and Macuna.

The thiamine has been amazing for me, I intend to post another update soon.

Hi James, like you I am staying prescrip meds free- I take Mannitol from syncoelin.com and have just started B1 under Dr Constantinis advice. I hve read John Peppers approach with conscious thought and find that helpful and I am following advice in Arthur Currans book 'Dumb bells and Dopamine' trying to get the strength back in my arm. I also walk my dog twice a day and i run at least twice a week, swim and take yoga classes.

Some days I feel 'normal' whatever that is and orher days I am stiff and old. But i getting there.

Good luck

I contacted Dr. Constantini. In his reply, he suggested I use a link to access a website. It turned out to be a site selling shares or part ownership of "Thiamine.org." I believe the doctor is trying to profit from his recommendations to take thiamine. Forgive me if I'm wrong!!!!!

You are very wrong. It appears that thiamine.org is an available website and you simply triggered an ad that would allow you to register the website. My advice is don’t bite. No one is going to make much money peddling thiamine.

in reply to sleezy

Nobody else on this forum has reported the same as you. I have contacted Dr. Costantini many many times and he has never suggested where to buy thiamine to me. Please write him again to clarify. You do not treat patients for free by email if your goal is to make money!

I have found B1 very very helpful.

sleezy profile image
sleezy in reply to 20fatcats

I have slacked off on B1 for a while. The B1 tablets I'm trying to take are big enough to choke a horse. I get tired of trying to swallow them! They are 500 MG in strength. I will start back to taking them soon, but not two at a time as in the past. One at a time, twice a day is the dosage I'll try next. Thanks for your interest.

in reply to sleezy

The 500 mg capsules are smaller and easier to swallow and then there is the bulk powder, but it has to be mixed into something sweet like yogurt in order to mask the bitterness.

I'll try the capsules when I run out of the 500 MG tablets. Thanks for the suggestion.
