Here is a problem I have not heard yet

You are driving to get some local fast food and you become painfully aware that you are lost. You start to panic and you tell yourself look for landmarks, nothing. Ok stay within the yellow lines stay within the yellow lines. I was getting food, where was I going? I do not know. When I get to the next intersection I will finally have my bearings.

I was a mile away from my house.

I hate to tell you this but you need to tell your neurologist. You may need to stop driving.

A hush falls over the room. I do not share things that happen to me once because that would be a butt load of info but this has happened to me twice. I had ( the presence of mind to know what was happening ) but to taste what happens to those dementia patients that just wonder off and are found in the dessert somewhere really freaked me out. I will talk to my Doctor when I see her next. I have dropped my driving to within a couple of miles from my house.

My wife has had a similar problem. It may be cognitive-deficit related. Only a medical professional would be qualified to evaluate that, in my opinion. It would behoove you to see your specialist ( neurologist/movement disorder specialist) soon, and explain, in detail, these episodes, so that you can be properly evaluated. Always carry a phone with you, so that you can call somebody, if you get disoriented, while out driving, might be advisable also.

Has not happened a third time yet, and I hope it dos not happen in the future. I go through so many changes I have decided that if it happens 3x then it is a trend.

A very scary and panicked feeling being in unfamiliar surroundings... Even scary to admit..

Or it could be nothing

I listened to an interview re this

Ur so used to going a certain way

U basically go in auto drive mode

Thinking of other things..

Then snap out of it

It's happened to me many times

Over the years

I'll see if I can find the article

In the meantime

Try not to stress out

Be well

It is freaky when you are only half a mile away from your house.

After I got a GPS I had no more problems.. I think I over reacted. Check it out, but do not panic. Some of these problems seem worse because we have started feeling vulnerable and less competent. If you are feeling vulnerable and afraid to talk about it, try to fiind a PD support group. People with PD have helped me the most. They lare less inclined to be judge mental,. Hang in there.

My husband was like that with Alzheimer's and got his cognitive function back fully by using a very high fat (coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil and butter), low protein and very little carbohydrate. No processed or packaged foods, no sugar or sweetener and no preservatives. Lots of above ground veggies. Fat should be around 80% of the diet. Coconut oil is very efficacious. Start slowly but work up to at least 4 Tablespoons daily. It works well for cooking.
